The news on the cinematic future of Star Wars is ramping up again soon after a series of updates on the project written by Damon Lindelof, as Shawn Levy is in discussions to work on a Star Wars film after he completes work on the final season of Stranger Things and Deadpool 3.

UPDATE: While not all fans trust what is reported by third part outlets, Shawn Levy himself has confirmed the reports are true via his verified Twitter account.

Deadline has learned that Shawn Levy, who is currently in post-production on the Netflix limited series All the Light You Cannot See, is engaged in discussions with Lucasfilm to work on an upcoming Star Wars project. This project is likely to begin development quite some time away from now, as there is a lot on Levy's plate currently. He is set to direct at least two episodes of Stranger Things 5, the final season of the series, which will begin filming next year for a presumed 2024 release; meanwhile, Deadpool 3 is scheduled for November 2024 and will most likely begin filming shortly after Levy's work on Stranger Things is finished.

Shawn Levy has largely kept his focus on family-friendly fare, having been the leading creative force behind the Night at the Museum franchise and Real Steel. Levy is also known for being a heavy collaborator with actor Ryan Reynolds, having made last year's sleeper hit Free GuyThe Adam Project for Netflix, and now the long-awaited third Deadpool film, which will feature Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine. (Deadpool 3 will represent a creative departure for Levy, as it has been confirmed that the film is targeting an R-rating despite it being connected to the generally PG-13 Marvel Cinematic Universe.) Levy is also notable for being one of the regular directors on Stranger Things, directing two episodes per season since the show began. Based on his output, it seems likely that Levy's film will be PG-13 and in line with his creative sensibilities, although it's not clear whether he has been selected to work on a new film or a project that has already been announced.

Well if any of this is true we are soon to be over saturated with Star Wars films… so many rumors it’s really starting to get annoying…

    Starting to?
I really feel like the media machine just tosses the latest/edgiest/trendy/fressshhh Hollywood darlings into the rumor mill for yet another TBD Star Wars project. It makes me pray that TPTB at Lucasfilm are not such slaves to the trend. Why not just utilize the enormous talent pool already on board? Favereau, Filoni, Taika, JJ Abrams, Lindeloff, Bryce-Howard, Howard, Gilroy, Johnson, Rodriguez...I'll take ANY of them against some millennial who co-wrote and was 2nd unit director on "a so dope episode of Euphoria..."
