SPECULATION 30 Days Until TLJ - Survey Questions

The fact that you highlighted this in red makes me nervous.

 

Will there be a major character death?

Maybe? It is hard to say. We know that Carrie Fisher is no longer with us and I suspect that the movie might rewrite her to go into a coma and have her die off screen.Kind of like Spock in the Abrams Trek films.


2. Will someone lose a limb?

Yes. I do suspect we will get that. I'm hopeful it won't be an arm, but a limb, but really I suspect it will be an arm. Hopefully, it isn't Rey but someone else, like Kylo?

3. Will someone change allegiance?

Perhaps. Kylo seems like the one who is most setup and really if he does, it is predictable, but does make sense. Hopefully, the opposite will happen so as to defy expectations. But I doubt it. My hope is that Rey could turn but I see that as a pipe dream.

4. Will Kylo interact with Leia?

I hope so. Considering he killed Han, Kylo(I refuse to call him Ben. Such an undeserving name. Should have gone with Jacen or some other name), there is a lot of potential with an exchange between mother and son.

5. Will Luke and Leia have a reunion?

Logically, I don't see this being the case, but really one factor as to why I see it is simply because Harrison Ford is gone. And thus, given how TFA(among its many valid gripes) didn't have a reunion with all three characters, I suspect TLJ will try to work it in somehow. If only, perhaps a picture of all three of them together.

6. Will the flashback be longer than the one in TFA?

It better be sure as longer than TFA. I barely even consider that moment a movie a flashback. Just a cheap mystery box tease. And really, when you hire someone like Rian Johnson, he should employ flashback. Just look at a film like Looper. The flashback in that movie is done so well and explains everything one needs to do. I do expect this flashback to explain at the very least what happened with Luke and Kylo.


7. Does Rey get captured or voluntarily go to Snoke?

I can see either or happening. I'm hoping for the latter as it represents her making a decision contrary to Luke and everyone else. Especially, if Luke is in fact hiding something from her.

8. Will TLJ end on another cliffhanger?

I'm sure it will end on a cliffhanger. Empire Strikes Back ended on a cliffhanger. And while this won't guarantee that this movie won't be ESB, as the second movie in the trilogy, it still needs to leave room open for a third movie.

9. Who will show up as a force ghost/voice if any?

I doubt we will see any ghosts. Perhaps, through the Forceback, we hear more voices, like Yoda, Obi-wan, Qi-gon, or even Anakin. But I do not think we will see any Force spirits until Episode Nine. Mainly, because if Luke Skywalker is this old cynic, I doubt he'd want to converse with other Jedi. But assuming he lightens up and something major happens, seeking answers from the past might help.

Or heck, it could be Rey who does that in Episode Nine.

10. Who will be a traitor of the new characters?

I suspect it will be DJ. Rose very well could be one, despite her having a sister. If anything, she could be brainwashed into serving the FO. I mean(SPOILER FOR AFTERMATH) if we can have Nora Wexley's husband, Brentin Lore Wexley have an organic chip inplanted for control, I can easily see this being the case for Rose or even Finn to reassert control(END SPOILERS FOR AFTERMATH).

11. Does Luke fight and if so use his green lightsaber?

Maybe. I can see at the very least showcasing some battle prowess on Ach-Too if the behind the scene shots during their shooting are anything to go by. If anything, the skeptic in me doubts it, but given how a lot of fans want to see Luke in action; I am hopeful. As for his lightsaber, I suspect Anakin's blade but not his. Perhaps, Luke has deconstructed it and has lost the crystal or something.

And perhaps, Episode Nine will showcase him using that blade as a cool homage.


12. Who will the Praetorian guards fight?

I suspect Kylo Ren, given the shots with Adam Driver doing mock battle practice. And I hope so. The Royal Guard of the Emperor were glorified knights in the movies and really ROTJ's biggest issue was not better utilizing them. So, my hope is that we see these guys in action and really not just aid Kylo, but also put up good fights against Rey and Luke.

Because, a bunch of skilled individuals with anti-lightsaber weapons. Sign me up.

13. Will Leia use the force?

Perhaps, but in indirect ways. If anything, I can see her using sensory skills and perhaps basic telepathy. The NC(and rightfully so) had Leia stay in the realm of politics and not become a fighter. If anything, the only battle oriented Force ability I see from Leia is a take on Battle Mediation where she can bolster the morale of her voices. But even then so, she has that ability innately by just her sheer charisma and who she is.

14. Will the Knights of Ren appear?

I hope so. I do hope they aren't just fodder who are picked off, but rather an elite group of fighters. TFA in my view horribly underutilized them, and I hope we get to see a lot more of them. B

15. Will Snoke use a light saber or fight in anyway and what force technique will he use?

I doubt we will see Snoke fighting with a Lightsaber. If he is akin to the Emperor, then Force will be his go to weapon. With him using a Lightsaber in a mocking sense to train Kylo, but that is it. As for applications, aside from Telekinesis, I actually see a high degree of telepathy and persuasion.

Given how in the TFA novel(should have been in the movie), we see Snoke conversing with Rey to egg her on to kill Kylo; I can see this being a rather deadly ability. For much like the devil, Snoke can coerce individuals into obeying him. Or at the very least torture them into submission via domination or some kind of mental images.

Overall, I suspect that this power in this movie will be the most showcased of Snoke.

16. Do you think all questions form TFA will be answered?

I hope so, but I doubt it. While I want stuff like the map to Skywalker to be answered as well as what happened to Luke, stuff like Rey's full origin, Snoke I suspect won't be apparent. There is another movie after all.

If anything, I want the story to quickly answer away hanging plot threads like Skywalker's map, Luke's disappearance and what happened to Kylo quickly and effectively. And really only introduce concepts of what I stated above towards the end. So for example, let's say Snoke is Darth Plagueis or some kind of evil from the First Jedi.

That is all I suspect we will get. I doubt we will get any extrapolation on those ideas until Episode Nine. Much like Luke and Vader reveal.

17. Will Chewie eat a Porg?

I will be sad if he doesn't. Even though, I like the Porgs. With all their soul consuming cuteness...

18. What surprise do you think will be in store that no one has thought of?

I have two actually. The first being that Rey's parents won't be anyone big, assuming she has any. Basically, to me what made Luke such a great character wasn't that he was related to someone. But rather who he was: a simple farmboy, who longed for adventure, wanted to stop the Empire.

His quest got harder when realizing the stakes got personal, but he never betrayed that earnestness and really defied expectations. My hope is that LF realizes this. That having a cool backstory is nothing. It's a characters personality traits and motivations, that make them cool. And for Rey; I just don't see that as of yet.

And really, her not being related to anyone would be an ingenious commentary of expectations vs reality. It is why I suspect Rey might be a wound in the Force in that she was created by the Force and siphons energy. And thus can form bonds a lot better than most.

As for the second theory, I suspect that Luke knows who Snoke is. And not just on a name basis, but rather; he is responsible for him. I suspect that Snoke either hails from another galaxy(maybe from RJ new SWs trilogy?) or was discovered by Luke in a coffin and was awoken.

Snoke helped Luke with Tekka creating his order and Snoke, perhaps through his motivation, turned on Luke and convinced Kylo to turn. The scars on Snoke's face: a consequence of battling Luke and perhaps tapping into dark side powers to stop him. Hence, Snoke wanting to stop Skywalker as he knows from experience just how powerful he is.



19. Does Luke use the force?

Yes. Whether or not it is beyond just Ach-too(and I really hope so. Don't be Yoda, Luke) remains to be seen. But I can see applications of telekinesis and repulse being showcased. Maybe, some sith lightning?

20. Does Kylo try and kill Rey or make her his BFF?

I doubt it Kylo will be tasked to kill Rey as Snoke wants her. But hating her, yes. I mean Kylo is like us: how could he loose to a scavenger of all people. Excusing a poor writing joke(which I'm so tempted to make), revenge I see is going to motivate Kylo. But beyond that, a curiousity.

We don't know how what Kylo's experience was like in Luke's academy, but I suspect it wasn't as good. Maybe, due to students not liking Kylo due to being directly related/ latent force powers. But considering Rey is as strong, if not stronger than he is, then commonality does exist in that they are enigmas.

I think traditional allegiances will fall away/take on new meaning. Characters don't have to necessarily "switch sides".​

If so, at the end of the movie.​

6. Will the flashback be longer than the one in TFA?

Who knows. I think the role of flashbacks in this trilogy has been overblown. They're for insight, not direct answers. ​

Voluntarily. She has no other reason to go to the Star Destroyer, unless we're re-enacting the "my friends are in danger and I have to help them but it's a trap" thing from ESB.​

Doesn't appear that way.​

Yoda.​

I don't think anybody. Doubtful we have another "Lando betrayal". DJ seems shady but genuine, so far. ​

For me (because I have a compulsion that makes it impossible for me to pass on reading spoilers) the best part about this thread is that we are a month out and we don't already know the answers to all these questions. Quite a difference from 2 years ago.

 

All based on my speculation, no spoilers.

1. Will there be a major character death?
No. I really don't think it's necessary.

2. Will someone lose a limb?
Possibly, but nobody major.

3. Will someone change allegiance?
Maybe not fully, but if someone is going to turn by the end of the trilogy, the seed will be sown in TLJ. I'm thinking mainly about Kylo. There will be a threat of Rey going dark, but I'm sure she won't.

4. Will Kylo interact with Leia?
Very likely. Seemingly confirmed, if we consider reaching out through the Force.

5. Will Luke and Leia have a reunion?
Very likely as well. That was the goal of Rey's journey, which she started at the end of TFA. I think this is the one that the good guys have to accomplish. I'll go out on a limb and say: yes!

6. Will the flashback be longer than the one in TFA?
Definitely!

7. Does Rey get captured or voluntarily go to Snoke?
She gets cocky and goes voluntarily.

8. Will TLJ end on another cliffhanger?
I think it will in a way, but the ending will still feel satisfying.

9. Who will show up as a force ghost/voice if any?
I'm leaning towards nobody, but if somebody is to show up, I'd say it's Yoda.

DJ. I mean, it's hard to call him a traitor. He's going to be a scoundrel who helps our protagonists, but then he won't hesitate to act against them for his own profit. Holdo seems shady as well.
