One thing keeps rolling in my head... puzzling the WHY Luke is hiding... why he fears coming out and going into exile (if the rumors and spoilers are right)...

    Parallel to ESB.

WHY in the world YODA, the most powerful JEDI in the universe doesn't come out, takes his lightsaber and powers and face the Emperor and Vader himself, but instead sends a mere padawan learner to face Vader and the Emperor ALONE?

    What happened???

I think (maybe I overthink it too much) there is a key here that parallels Luke's fate in The Force Awakens...

Both Yoda and Luke (once again, if the rumors are proven true) go in Exile for 30 years.

    WHY?

And what are their fears? Why they hide?

Why YODA sends Luke to face Vader?

Yoda could have defeated Vader with a glance... in ESB, he was moving ships with his mind.

What if we find out in the Sequel Trilogy that duel between Jedi and Sith are not decided by who is stronger or more skilled but.... something elses... like....

Compatibility. In order to defeat a Sith, you must have that SOMETHING in your FORCE Spectrum...

    Follow me...

That would explain why Obi Wan sacrifices himself to Vader in Episode IV...

He was Luke's master. By sacrificing himself to Vader, he knew he'd render Luke "compatible" to ultimately face and defeat Vader.

The same with Obi Wan and Darth Maul.... Maul killed Qui Gon... Obi Wan's master. The Obi Wan was apt to defeat Maul...

Maybe the ONLY WAY for a Jedi to defeat a Sith... without falling to the dark side of the Force, is to avenge a Fallen master.

Yoda knew he couldn't defeat the Emperor. If he did, he would fall to the darkside of the Force...

That is why he ran and hid.

Same is why Obi Wan never wanted to kill Anakin and hid.

The "New Hope" was triggered by the fact Obi Wan sacrificed himself to Vader, hence, gave the opportunity to Luke (the key - the free pass) to avenge his master.

Let's bring this to the Sequel Trilogy....

    If my theory is right.......

A Jedi defeats a Sith with no "free pass/Key" (A la Anakin killing Dooku)... then becomes a Sith.

    Who is the Jedi
    Who is the Sith

And who provides the "free pass/ The Key / The New Hope"???

    My point is...

A JEDI only can defeat a Sith that has killed his master... if he doesn't... he falls to the Dark side of the Force.

So, if my Theory is correct I see 2 possible outcomes to Episode VII:

1 - Luke falls to the Darkside saving someone from a Sith lord/Wannabe... that has certainly not killed Obi Wan nor Yoda.

2 - Luke sacrifices himself to give that "Free pass/Key" to a new Jedi that will avenge him in the next Episodes.

In conclusion... I don't see Luke, as we know him for long....

    (EDIT)...

And maybe that's the opposite scheme for a Sith... in order to become more powerful, you have to kill your Master.......

Makes a lot of sense, but... and there's always a but... how do we then avoid Luke's character just serving as Obi-Wan 2.0?

Pretty sure we'd all be a bit disappointed if it plays out exactly as it did in Episode IV. There must be a twist in order to have this feel fresh.

Also, I dunno that Yoda could have wiped the floor with both Vader and Palps... Maybe the answer is really as simple as it appears... the little green fella was yella.

Yoda was probably too old to fight, but then again.. What's 30 years when you're already 800 years old. He was strong enough to lift the ship out of the swamp.. He was obviously powerful enough not to have to use a light saber (imo). I agree he could've defeated Vader. Could be just lazy?! He should have least tagged along with Luke easily enough.

    Perhaps there is another explanation.

The thing about Yoda is, he's been living in a swamp for 20+ years after living in a clean temple in Coruscant, and his health is deteriorating as he dies in a year or less later. He also lost his lightsaber after the Sidious duel.

Obi-Wan knew he would be a greater help to Luke as a spirit, because he was getting too old for these sort of things. He could communicate with Luke when Luke needed it and Obi-Wan could not be around, in his X-wing or in the middle of a blizzard on Hoth.

I'd like to see Luke physical health in The Force Awakens, after his isolation. We've heard his mental health could be deteriorating but we'll see.

I think that Yoda and Obi-Wan knew that to defeat the Emperor, Luke had to turn Vader, and if not Luke then Leia.
