All right, some spoilers for Ahsoka below.

So, we now have "Ahsoka the White", a fan name for the obvious Gandalf homage in her wardrobe now. But that got me thinking... is there deeper symbolism here, or just a nod from Filoni?

In a way, we can already easily see some similarities between Ahsoka and Gandalf... most obvious perhaps being the difficulty that Gandalf has in rallying Denethor to Sauron's presence to the hurdles Ahsoka has already had (and will likely continue) in getting the Republic senate to act on Thrawn's threat.

What other similarities might there be?

    - Thrawn/Sauron- a dark warlord returned

    - Gandalf reclaimed Glamdring from a troll cave, Ahsoka purified bled lightsabers

    - Technically, Ahsoka wasn't around during Thrawn's terror on Lothal, much as Gandalf didn't arrive to Middle Earth until after Sauron's defeat at the hands of Isildur.

    - Despite not being around in Season 3 and 4, her aid to the Ghost crew in their work including Lothal could be seen as similar to Gandalf helping the dwarves reclaim their home in the Lonely Mountain.

How might some of these characteristics of Gandalf be used in Star Wars in the future?
    - Who is her Saruman? Is it Anakin?

    - The Black Gate, Minas Tirith, and Osgiliath... how closely might we see these conflicts adapted?

    - Will Ahsoka leave to her own type of Grey Havens? Perhaps returning to Peridea's galaxy at some point, or delving into the World Between Worlds?

I will probably draw fire for this statement, but as someone who has been a fanatic since I was a kid in the early 80s, I feel licensed to say it.

I am much more grateful for and enjoying what Dave Filoni is bringing in to Star Wars over what GL brought to the table. He is the Creator. Fair enough. Filoni is bringing solid stories and established a solid Canon with solid and deep influences such as LOTR. It gives depth and a much deeper and fantastic lore to the franchise. It's also something that is much more relatable and recognizable since Gandalf, Hobbits and Middle Earth had such a resurgence in recent years. I also think it's notable how he is working some of the Legends elements into Canon.

In regards to the LOTR parallels, I think it just adds another layer to how we as fans interpret, understand and speculate these stories, and that is a great thing. I think the beauty of a franchise and a Canon with the enormous scope of Star Wars is that you can relate it to pretty much anything and there are no bad or incorrect references. The Visual salad we are getting especially in the Ahsoka series, with cues from LOTR, Game of Thrones, classic Samurai, Westerns, not to mention just using inspiration from all 3 SW trilogies, animation and books... It's like every time they run these ingredients through the machine, they become more and more blended into something uniquely and simply defined as STAR WARS.

You know, in a way, I agree.

Lucas created this world we all love, and... well, to mixed results, expanded on it at times.

And I know that Legends continuity has a lot of fans. That's great, and I like a lot of Legends stuff too. It, thankfully, still exists.

But I like how Filoni has modernized Star Wars. It hasn't all worked, to be sure. But after my fears that the Sequel trilogy may not have necessarily snagged a new generation of fans like the OT and PT did (whether or not that's actually even true), I think Filoni is securing Star Wars' future in a much more sustainable way. I'm fascinated to see where the series goes from here, because it seems like Filoni is doing the incredible- actually creating an era in Star Wars between the OT and ST that can be explored in depth, and doing so in a really fascinating way.

I agree. As a huge fantasy fan, I never considered Star Wars to be a sci-fi and when I heard some people arguments that Star Wars is not a good sci-fi, because sci-fi is clever and rooted more in realism, while tossing in Star Trek sometimes as doing it better, I always replied that Star Wars is a fantasy with sci-fi world and elements.
It can also be a western sometimes, you name it, but the whole idea of force, destiny, higher purpose, good vs evil that has roots in the mystical energy, force ghosts etc. that's it.

I was pleasantly surprised with Filoni going heavy fantasy with Ahsoka and there were some of these things already in Clone Wars, like the obvious Mortis Gods, that Morai owl constanly going around Ahsoka in later stories, or those underground dwellers in the episode with R2 and C3PO trying to solve the tremors.
Even tho I have criticized the writing of the show hard as it wrapped now, lot of the themes and visuals in Ahsoka made me happy.
With the witch tower looking a lot like Minas Tirith, that oldschool wayfinder device, the iconography and everything.
Not to mention the Mount Doom at the end of Ahsoka.

I suspect that Sauron like entity is coming to GFFA.
