The cast of Ahsoka spoke with Collider after the Ahsoka panel at Star Wars Celebration, and while it’s clear they’ve all been carefully coached to avoid spoilers, we learned some interesting bits of information nonetheless. We’ve compiled a selection of quotes from all of the interviews, but we encourage you to read or watch the full pieces (linked below for each cast member).

Natasha Liu Bordizzo was asked what surprised her about Dave Filoni’s scripts, and had some interesting comments on whether the show will be accessible to fans who haven’t watched Rebels or kept up with the MandoVerse:

I’m sure I’m not alone in wondering just how successful they were at striking this balance. It's hard to believe that viewers unfamiliar with Rebels and perhaps even behind on The Mandalorian would be able to jump into Ahsoka seamlessly. That said, I’m rooting for their success. I would love nothing more than to introduce Lucasfilm's animated series to a newfound fan of Ahsoka.

In a similar conversation, Mary Elizabeth Winstead was asked what essential Hera Syndulla episodes fans should watch prior to Ahsoka's August release:

Winstead is referring to The Bad Batch season 1 episodes 11 and 12, a two-episode arc focusing on the Syndullas in the early days of Imperial control on Ryloth. In those episodes, we see a young Hera, still with her Rylothian accent, grapple with her dreams of flying and her parents’ precarious political position. Winstead is correct that the older version of Hera we see in Rebels is in many ways still the same bright-eyed young pilot, but with the added burden of responsibility.

Ray Stevenson, who plays the new character Baylan Skoll, had a lot of praise for the whole cast and crew of Ahsoka, speaking positively about everything from the writing to the production design to the fight sequences. Regarding the fight choreography specifically, he said:

Stevenson was also asked about his relationship with Thrawn:

A bit of a cheeky response that gives nothing away. We know Baylan acts as an adversary to Ahsoka, but Thrawn’s individual nature tends to isolate him from potential allies, so it’s likely that like Stevenson said, Baylan is both friendly and adversarial with Thrawn. Speculation around Thrawn’s plans continues to mount with the finale of The Mandalorian coming on Wednesday and now Ahsoka right around the corner.

Another question that was asked to all of the cast members was 'Out of all the episodes for the season, did they have a favorite?' Rosario Dawson attempted a cagey response while surreptitiously holding up five fingers. Look out for episode 5, perhaps?

Dawson also spoke about surprising elements in the Ahsoka script and drew an interesting comparison between what we will see in Ahsoka versus what we’ve seen of the character so far in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

Finally, we also received an interview with Ivanna Sakhno, who had a noteworthy comment about what Filoni brought to the show:

This is of course relevant to her character, Shin Hati, and co-star Ray Stevenson's character, Baylan Skoll, who are seen using orange-bladed lightsabers in the trailer.

I remember when some Star Wars fans didn't want to watch Star Wars Rebels because it was a kiddy Disney show.

Each and every season of Rebels got better, and that much more mature.

Dave Fioloni was the showrunner of Rebels... I grew to love Ezra and the every member of the Ghost crew.

I was excited to see the Ghost ship cameo in Rogue One, General Hera Syndulla being called for assistance over the radio, and also Chopper, so this is the pay off!!! ( General Hera Syndulla leads Alphabet Squadron read the book trilogy and the Tie-Fighter comic books).

This series we will see all our beloved animated characters transition to live action.

I am so happy I'm a Star Wars fan, the payoff is coming!!! How many people will over look Star Wars Visions volume 2 just because its animated... your losss :p

    Amen. Hallelujah!
I love Rebels. The characters, the stories, the heart of it, and how it plays into the Big Story.

I just do not get this pessimism that is being taken about whether or not new viewers will understand these series because of their deep histories. You know what, viewers are gonna ingest as much as THEY want or need. If they don't know the backstory, they can either ride the current story or they can go do some homework. This is how our Legion grows. A cool new show grabs someone just the way the movies did for us. Next thing you know, they are soaking up everything out there, joining online forums, making cosplay, they are hooked. If they don't want to follow the rabbit hole, that's fine too. They can casually enjoy what they want, when they want it. These series are fun and exciting and every bit as easy to follow casually as most TV series.

We as the hardcore fans are projecting this as a concern or potential flaw. As this Galaxy gets bigger and bigger and as all these eras start to connect, there is just no way to avoid this dilemma. But good storytelling is the key, and we are lucky enough to have a stable of excellent storytellers working on Star Wars. Sometimes it is hard to let go of things we want to see, to just trust the creators, have a little faith and suspend expectations, but that's what this Galaxy is all about.

I think that we are mostly spoilt with prequels and all the complementary materials.
If done right, you don't have to see Rebels as this will probably be self-contained arc for the Ahsoka series...
and if people will love that, they can always go back to watch more of the characters.

For example, we had no idea in OT, why is Darth Vader in the suit, his background which important aspects were revealed through and to Luke.
We had the role in the story set up as an enforcer for the empire and failed Jedi colleague of Obi-Wan Kenobi etc.
We did explore these details through Prequels two decades later.

This is where the Sequel Trilogy failed, with lacking exposition and not being able to clearly follow up both the Prequels and Originals, as the OT formula clearly didn't work out and couldn't. You can't see the whole Palpatine rise to power, his brief appearances and motivations in OT, heroes defeat the empire and then jump in 30 years into the story and just say, from the ashes of Empire rose the First Order and somehow, Palpatine has returned. Sure there was fun pay off with the line from Revenge Of The Sith with unnatural abilities, but there were many plotholes to begin with and sloppy designs.
And that's it, as I write further, the opening crawl with the first order would be satisfactory in itself, it's the later story plots in the movie itself that should tie in to the rest and the hard time connecting completely new characters to saga that was about Anakin and Luke Skywalker.
Luke's line about Darth Sidious in TLJ for example was brilliant. For people who saw the movies before, it was pay off as you can tie that information directly to what happened before and no need for further explanation, for others, it's like Obi-wan with Clone Wars in Episode 4, a piece of world building that is hitting on the link with Darth Vader, two veterans from a conflict, after which one of them turned to the evil - which nowadays, we can watch in all glory.

But don't get me wrong, you don't have to go in detail, but give clear enough and well timed exposition when needed.
Or you can go the Obi-Wan way and do a recap at the beginning (while advertising the movies/show that came before at the same time).
Nobody had issues with watching Obi-Wan and not having seen the movies (but all probably did) and at least they did the recap anyway.

Star Wars by GL was always meant to be episodic, where you jump into the episode mid run and have self contained story with fleshed out characters.
Like you can jump in to any Star Wars Episode without seeing the other before or after, however you want and the story itself should work basically.
I have heard about kids from different fans around the world, that grew up into fans watching The Clone Wars series first and not seeing the movies.
And I don't want to put Dave Filoni on larger than life piedestal, but he gets it and even tho I don't tend to go into nerd freakouts and be more casual, his Duel Of Fates explanation blew me away! I never did considered that before... and based on his other statements, he really gets the GL approach from understanding the work and themes that lie under, but also he gets the format itself. The rest lies on the actual writing.
    So fingers crossed!

BTW I hated Rebels at first... It looked cheap compared to Clone Wars, more kiddy stuff at the beginning in such a contrast to CW and also, cancelation of CW when we knew that there is bunch of unproduced stories for canceled seasons and getting that...
It was a lot harder coming after an aclaimed series that had also wonky beginning at first (The movie was so so, some extra stuff, but I was hooked by the Malevolence arc), but still looked a bit better, as Lucas did clearly supported it hard.

But it picked up the pace with appearance of Grand Inquisitor and raised the stakes a bit, all the episodes that were at first not really exciting did pay off and I started to care about the crew. The finale on Star Destroyer on Mustafar orbit was awesome.
The low budget approach was gone by Season 2 and the rest is history. Great stuff.

For the more mature that still can't stand kid stuff, there is Andor/Rogue One to tell different angle on the Rebellion story. Everyone wins.
I am immensely happy that they are now adapting the past Episode 6 era. There is ton of stories to tell in 30 years in SW Galaxy.
I like the allusions to the Sequel Trilogy and filling the gaps recently, just hope that they will go a bit outside of that and not just bridge the movies hard.
Having those Praetorians alluding to both the Red Guards and Sentinels from OT/ST was well enough to keep me satisfied :)
