Aspyr Announces That Knights of the Old Republic II Switch Port Will Not Receive Restored Content Mod Update

Fans of BioWare and Obsidian Entertainment's classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game series have gotten plenty of good and bad news over the last few years. On one hand, both of the original two games have received Nintendo Switch ports courtesy of Aspyr Media as well as physical rereleases. However, we also learned last year that development on the long-awaited remake of the original Knights of the Old Republic had encountered notable setbacks. Consequently, the remake won't be ready for release for at least another couple years.



When Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords was announced for Nintendo Switch last year, Aspyr Media also revealed that the fan-favorite Restored Content Mod (also known as 'The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod' or TSLRCM) would arrive on the console later as free DLC. Unfortunately, that will no longer be the case.



Aspyr has just announced on their Twitter page that TSLRCM will not be available for the Switch version of the game. However, if you've already bought the game on the Switch, Aspyr has promised to provide a free video game key that will allow you to get another classic Star Wars game free of charge. Upon its release near the end of 2004, Knights of the Old Republic II enjoyed a positive reception from video game critics and Star Wars fans. Over the years, it has developed a strong following and is widely seen as a worthy sequel to the original Knights of the Old Republic, which was developed by BioWare. However, Obsidian Entertainment, the developers of the sequel, had barely more than a year to make the game. The rushed development timeline meant that lots of content had to be removed from the title so it could make its holiday 2004 release date.



TSLRCM was a project undertaken by a group of dedicated Knights of the Old Republic II fans in the years after the game's release with the intention of putting as much cut content as possible back into the game. While not everything that Obsidian intended to be in the game could be restored (if you've been wondering what the Telos Military Base Sub-Level would've had in store for us since 2004, I feel your pain), the modders still did a more than admirable job with the tools at their disposal. A significant amount of content was returned to the game including new lines of dialogue, new combat encounters, and even an extra planet to visit. Plus, they patched out a lot of bugs.



No reason was given in Aspyr's post for why the Restored Content Mod won't be available on the Switch. Still, if you've been enjoying Knights of the Old Republic II on the console and want to experience the extra content, Aspyr has listed the Steam version of the game as one of the free keys you can claim. The PC version of the mod is available for free in several languages.
