In a new interview with Italian publication Bad Taste (and with the help of ComicBook.com), Ben Mendelsohn revealed that he has not been recently asked to return to Star Wars. With Andor season 2 having officially just wrapped filming, Mendelsohn's comments essentially rule out any possibility of Director Krennic showing up for Andor season 2.

Even though Ben Mendelsohn expresses interest in returning to his Rogue One character, he states that Lucasfilm has not contacted him recently about reprising his role. The last time Mendelsohn portrayed Director Krennic was in The Bad Batch season 2:

However, Mendelsohn believes that there is still ample room and opportunity for Krennic to reappear in some way. He cites the character's ambition and backstory as a reason to go back and explore the character even further:

On Friday, actor Diego Luna announced that Andor season 2 had officially wrapped principal photography. The new season is slated to bring viewers right up to the beginning of Rogue One. This meant characters that appear in Rogue One could also appear in the latest season. Showrunner Tony Gilroy even confirmed as much. But Mendelsohn's comments seem to indicate Director Krennic will not appear in Andor.

Andor season 2 is set to release in 2025 on Disney+.

Too bad, Krennic is a very interesting character too. Covered very well in the novelization of Rogue One.....

I liked the way that Krennic's world doesn't really collide directly with Andor's until the very end of Rogue One and he's like "Who are you people?" (sort of) to Jynn and Cassian.

It might seem to violate that if Krennic is involved in Andor S2.

Krennic was a 'new' kind of bad guy...he was a psychopath. Mendelsohn played him brilliantly. Did anyone on here ever see him in the Amazon Stephen King series The Outsider? He was great, and in a sympathetic role that was as far away from Krennec as could be.

Indeed. Mendelssohn was great in The Outsider. I recommend it highly.

I'd love to see more of both Mendelssohn and Krennic, but I just don't see room in Andor for such, similar to Jyn Erso. S2 has a lot to cover in time and story with the characters established in S1 and I simply hope that we get satisfying ends for them as Stellan's comments indicate. I'm assuming that any new characters introduced in S2 will will play intricate parts in those stories and I doubt the scope of the series will go beyond the already started storylines of Cassian, Luthen, their people, Mon, Dedra and Syril.

Along with the novelization of R1, Catalyst: A Rogue One Story is a great dive deeper into Krennic and his relationships with the Empire and the Erso family.
