Chewbacca: Life Debt

Yeah, it's a focus point of Star Wars Aftermath Life Debt.

 

I believe he may have made one with Rey.

 

heartbreaking question!

i was genuinely shocked that Chewie shot him in the film (and even moreso that he hit him!).

i really hope they address this in the next movie.

 

why? Kylo just had killed Han, so what did you expect that Chewie would do? nothing?

 

because he's still Han's son and Han is dead and nothing can be done at this point.

if there is a debt that extends to Han's family, Chewie might have been more conflicted. these things are very psychologically complicated.
but if Chewie has no obligation to Han's family and/or no longer feels like Ben is alive, then it makes sense he wouldn't hesitate to take that shot.

 

I think Chewie acted on instinct given that he and Han had been together for so long and been through so much. He'd have also seen the effect Ben becoming Kylo would have had on Han and Leia and their subsequent seperation, so he wouldn't have hesitated I don't think. And as one H.Solo once brilliantly said "it's not wise to upset a wookie..."

I had the same reflexion recently.
Chewie's mind must be, in Episode VIII, set on revenge mode.
He wants to kill Kylo Ren.

How that'll fit in the story... ?

That will certainly pave the plot for the rest of the trilogy.
And determine who he will end up hanging with...

 

I'm not surprised Chewbacca shot Kylo. Kylo killed Han who was like family to him. He really does not have any connection to Kylo/Ben. He went back to his family right on Kashyyk right after the events of Life Debt and he did not come back to Han until after Ben turned and Han went back to smuggling.

 

Exactly. I mean, Chewie and Kylo are not bff's by any means. Plus, Han had not even seen Kylo in quite awhile. Chewie has no real ties to Kylo except that he is Han's son and that's it.

 

It's possible that he didn't even realize/know that Kylo is Ben.

Does anyone know how long it's been since Han had see Ben?

 

No. the timeline is not very clear at this point. 5-6 years pre TFA we know Ben is with Luke and Han spends periods of time away from home racing. What we don't know is when Ben left to be with Luke and Han's presence during the time Ben was at home.

 

and we also don't know exactly what Luke was doing before Ben was given for training to him.

 

we are given the impression from the book that Han has never seen Ben as a full-blown adult (as a man), but that's pretty vague.

if Leia was in contact with Ben by holocam or whatever before the events of Bloodline (when he was 21-22), it seems reasonable to expect that Han had seen him then too (and it would seem he was already mostly full-grown by then).

 

No spoiler yet about that, maybe a episode 8 reveal to come on Leia's part.

 

yeah, I guess Han&Leia did send Ben late for training to Luke. Probably too late. I guess after training started, there was not much contact, since Luke didn't want the training to be interrupted.
