2.) There's always the Force. They were both hurting from the loss of Han, and could share that pain in a way that's probably not possible with normal people. But even without the Force, they had reason to connect emotionally.

3. How was Rey able to use a force mind trick and force abilities seemingly out of nowhere with absolutely no explantation? It is the ONLY thing that is really bugging me about the movie. Did I miss something?

 

I think she has some secrets about her past we don't know about. She may have been trained as a Jedi up until she was 5. Now that's the only way i can explain it away. I'm told there are clues to this throughout the film - that she uses the force at times and hides it. I'm going to see it FINALLY tomorrow night and I'm looking for this. Because it irritates the hell out of me too that she just - whoop - I'm a trained Jedi out of nowhere.

 

I will have to take a closer look on my next viewing. She can also fly ships as well even though she's been stuck on Jakku she could have flown away any time she wanted. Why was Jakku so important? A really intriguing character. Can't wait for Episode VIII and hopefully the answers to some of these questions.

 

Right! Went from a scavenger to piloting the MF?

 

Here's the thing. According to the Visual Guide book the "force awakens" in Rey and Finn sending a ripple though out the galaxy. The Force is playing the characters and determining their fate.

Speculation:
1. It's a totally new cybernetic hand. Like had to get a knew replacement sometime between ROTJ and TFA.

2. The Force. Leia knows through the force. Just as Rey does.

3. Rey is way more powerful than anyone thought she'd be.

 

The fake skin could have just worn off after all this time.

Or maybe he was picking at it nervously in his cave.

 

Someone explained this exquisitely in another thread. It is possible, that through her vision, and tapping into the mind of Kylo Ren, that Rey was able to learn more about The Force.

 

It is possible the novelization delves more into Rey's relationship with Unkar Platt, but for all intents and purposes, the girl has been on her own since early childhood. I would suspect that most of what she knew of her childhood, before arriving on Jakku, has since been forgotten. It is possible she was whisked away for her own safety. I think her existence has been known, but kept a secret, except to a select few. She is the apprentice of Luke Skywalker who will bring balance back to The Force.

 

The previous scene with Kylo probing her mind had a huge effect on her abilities, she not only block him out, but reversed it and saw his secrets. That really seemed to unlock at least some of her powerful mind. The mind trick scene seemed to be her testing that further.

I sensed quite heavily that she had a new found sense of belief in herself, and her abilities. Ridleys delivery of Ray made me believe that anyway.

 

Your question about Jakku is definitely explained. She is waiting there for her family to return for her. She doesn't want to leave because she doesn't want to miss them. Yeah, they probably aren't coming back for her, but as Maz points out, Rey is kind of in denial about that for the first half of the movie.

The hand took a hit during Return of the Jedi while on Jabba's sail barge, burning the artificial flesh and exposing some of the components underneath... he looks at it again when he cuts off the robotic hand of his father.
Perhaps it required maintenance to keep it looking "normal"?

The visual dictionary mentions that she has "become a skilled pilot, despite showing no desire ever to leave" although it never actually mentions how she managed to do this... In the novelization, Rey tells Finn she has piloted "all kinds of craft" and a little later she says to him that "I've been flying every kind of junk you can imagine almost since I could walk."

The films also make it clear that Rey had no intention of leaving Jakku. She was foolishly clinging to the hope that her family would return.

It's possible... but how old was she at the time? Would it make much of a difference?
Is Luke really into the whole training of little kids in the ways of the Force?

 

Where do people get this mind wipe from. I see it on heaps of threads. is there anything Canon that we see this?

Just wondering as, Can't recall this in any of the 7 films, or any canon for that matter.

Ok we see driver read minds, or sense thoughts. Vader and Luke both sensed thoughts to. Mind mind wipe sounds very MIB
