Dark Horse vs. Marvel

I am loving the bulk of the new Marvel series...specifically Star Wars and Vader. Also liked Han Solo and Lando series'.

I largely ignored the Dark Horse comics (more of a canon fan), but am now curious...

Can anyone recommend strong Dark Horse entries? I usually buy TPB's since I am not a month-to-month collector. Thanks!

 

Personally from Dark Horse I liked the Dark Times series, The Force Unleashed (the first tpb) and Purge (also just 1 tpb)

 

Marvel has a loooong way to go but they're catching up IMO. Overall, this run is better than their first crack, although I love a lot of the original Marvel run, they didn't have the PT, TCW, TOR etc. -- heck, they didn't even have ESB or RotJ at first! But right now they're trying a lot of different things, not all successful, but better than where they started. Kanan was great, Darth Maul was good, and recent arcs weaving all the canon with select EU has been good. My biggest gripe is sloppy art and not enough "lore" comics -- post-Disney Lucasfilm is a lot like pre-DH Lucasfilm -- they're keeping a tight grip on deep lore. Nothing about the Whills or their Guardians, no OR, no early Jedi, no jumping past the ST etc. I'm hoping they loosen up in the near future and give us some really far-ranging content. Mace Windu was a great idea but a mediocre comic, but at least they tried But it's time to really unleash this universe in the publishing realm and expand it the way they did in the old days.

 

Purge was good. Knight of the Old Republic was good. Republic was good, especially the Clone Wars. But I love Star Wars Legacy! I haven't had the chance to read any of the new Marvel Star Wars. Should I do it? I love the new movies! Will I like the new comics? Where should I begin?

 

The best Marvel single TPB is still Lando, in my opinion, a great story from start to finish. The main Star Wars comic and the Darth Vader (2015) comic up till the Vader Down are both excellent, after Vader Down they become more hit and miss. The new Darth Vader comic (2017) is also very good. And my personal favorite Doctor Aphra.

Marvel comics as they seem to be the most dominant and I think better story writing. I haven’t read a darkhorse Star Wars comic in a long long time. Do darkhorse even write Star Wars comics anymore? Let me know otherwise please.

 

Now no. Marvel & IDW r the only ones publishing SW Comics.
