While we are waiting for brand new stuff to discuss for the next months (we'll be busy)... I suggest we start a... let's say... Guideline... for workers, students... that will have to make a plan to skip job, school, exams... on probably, December 17th (for midnight screenings)...

It's not all of us that has the privilege to easily take a day off on that special day...

For my part, every job I signed for... it was in the contract: Any new Star Wars Episode = I am not available :)

Since I changed my job recently... well, it may be different this time... I may have to be inventive...

    SO, boys and girls...

For those of you that will have to find reasons to make a Ferris Bueller out of yourselves on the 17th... what is your plan?

For those of you that can easily take a day off... do you have ideas to help the other ones....

    Be creative! :)

Maybe, at the end... we will find the PERFECT plan!

Since I work part time with my parents, I bet I could convince my mom (Probably not my dad; he's serious and only liked ANH) that I (And her of course) could just skip work. That is, if we're not going to the midnight screening. Could also take my younger stepcousins there (They might be doing Winter Break then, and they'll need a babysitter).

As for those who do work with parents that aren't total suckers for them like mine are... Yeah, I've got nothing.

We can fake a very bad cold, or Sinusitis in December...

Since, this is only VALID THIS TIME.... the movie is released in December.... and that may only be valid for people living in the northern part of the country.... and Canada... they start the heating... and people normally gets sick.

Normally I just make it very clear to everyone that I am not available on Star Wars release dates. I am very transparent about it, and it's a good laugh :)

This might sound nuts ! But Home cinema is at the point now were I actuly prefer waiting a few extra months for a movie to hit on home release then going to the cinema and taking the risk of running into that a## hole who goes out of his way to ruin a movie by either talking or texting or something else obnoxious !

So I'm going to sit back let the movie do its thing at the cinema bide my time then enjoy a quality experience at home on my 55 inch 3d screen with a cup of tea in hand : )

So long story short I won't need to take time off work .

I'm with you on the sentiment but you have far more willpower than I do. In general, home is a better experience but for event films I still make the trek to the theater. No way I can wait another six months on a new Star Wars.

As the old adage says ' good things come to those who wait '

Also my experience with STARWARS at the cinema isn't great , see prequels ! Nuff said !

But I'm to young to off seen the original trilogy at the cinema so my memories of watching the original VHS tapes in the liveing room with the family are the kind of memories I want to recreate this time round .

For me it was simple; I'm organizing a big midnight premiere party, so I just invited all my coworkers. They know I'll be busy that day so its almost like a leave request far in advance.

I'm going to take the 18 off. My kids will be out of school and we will go to a morning showing. Since the movie is a few months out, I agree with @p03 that the easiest thing to do is request the time off in advance. Whenever the earliest your job allows to request time off.

If that doesn't work when you call in tell them you have been attacked by Tuskan Raiders.

I already have a PTO request in and approved for that day. Working in IT, I imagine that it will be pretty competitive to get that day off, since we are all nerds, so I applied for it over a year in advance.
