As part of the lead-in to The Force Awakens, Droid Tales is a cartoon mini-series that will catch younger viewers up on the events of the previous six movies, and features Anthony Daniels narrating as C-3PO. And it's done all in Lego. Well, digital Lego.

Episode 1 premiers on Disney XD on July 6, but if you have the app (or a web browser) you can watch it now. (You will need to already subscribe to Disney XD from your cable provider in order for it to work)

[Episode 1 - Exit From Endor]

This first episode covers The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, while also managing to introduce a plot of its own. The humor hits sometimes and misses sometimes, but it's a cute retelling of those movies in a way that kids can follow and adults can laugh along.

Because I follow Star Wars news here in the Cantina and elsewhere, it wasn't lost on me while I watched the episode that I was experiencing the first of what is a long roll-out of pre-TFA storytelling aimed to get the general audience up to speed. It made December feel that much closer.

Did I mention it was Lego?

I watched this the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I thought it would be more "cutesy" than it really was; while none of the humor is so high-level that kids can't enjoy it, I found a lot of the jokes to be aimed at adult fans. I absolutely loved Ackbar too, lol. "Let me just clean all the fast food wrappers off the passenger seat." I'm anxiously awaiting the next episode!

At long last. Episode 2, Crisis on Coruscant, is up on Disney XD. Haven't watched it yet, but can't wait!

    And watched.

Too late / too tired for a full review. The ways in which they skim through the plots of these movies (this time Eps II and III) are as creative as they are at times bewildering. But the humor is persistent throughout.

It made my night that this episode was finally released. Hope you guys all enjoy it as well.

I had no idea this series even existed and happened to catch half of episode 2 the other night. Was pleasantly surprised. Very funny.

    Welcome to the Cantina!

It's a cute little show. I just wish we knew when we could expect upcoming episodes.

Thanks! Yeah I found it weird I had never even heard of this title before running into it by accident, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of info for it online either.

I like how it's like a riff on the original concepts from GL that SW is supposed to be from The Droids' POV.

Man, I just watched the first episode and laughed my ass off. I don't know how I missed this - I'll probably buy that DVD now.

That was half the fun, especially because it was so good-natured. The first time Jar-Jar was blown away, I almost fell off my chair.

I finished the show and I loved it. And, they weren't making fun just of the prequels, but the original trilogy as well - they made me crack up so many times. I could go for more Droid Tales in the future. :)
