With the three different trilogies, when it comes to the technology which is easier or more difficult: taking ANH's technology and reverse engineering it to 30 years before or forwarding it 30 years after ROTJ?

I think easier. Things were pretty brick-like in the OT. They made a few things smooth in the PT... others more rough looking. I'd think if they refine lines, it could easily look "more sleek," but if there has been a cold-war, and a slowing of technology, maybe they can just push things a little ahead with the lines of the ships.

Speaking of funny... other than the Dark Horse comics, I'm pretty unfamiliar with the Star Wars EU novels (I think I read 6 of them about 15 years ago).

I have, however, bought/read almost all of the "essential," and "new essential" guided to weapons, vehicles, et cetera, and have read them all multiple times for the "stories" inside the tech-read-outs. my GF asks me how I can read the same books over and over, but to me, it's about the most immersive way to get into the universe.
