I wonder if that description is right? Is that not what the force Unleashed storm troopers looked like? (Its been a while) If not hey-Oh! there is our first look!

But I think it refers to a combination of these Shadowtrooper and Shadow Stormtrooper both from the EU. Not from the new trilogy.

 

If that picture is official also then I am sceptical this is in 7. The reason being the design is too simular to the OT storm trooper design compared to the reworked helmet we have seen. I would expect more variation.

IMO since this was always EU before I would expect to see these guys in Rebels at some point. Ergo if they appear in an older iteration in Rebels then we may very well see their newest incarnation in Episode VII since we're definitely gonna see evolved stormtroopers.

As for the products -- Disney is definitely selling these hard as well as other (formerly EU) products. This leads one to believe that they will officially become canon at some point soon.

I am sorry but I may be lost on what Mara has to do with the Shadow Stormtrooper?

 

Well since Mara Jade was considered EU and Disney stated they are overwriting the EU I was taking it as a hunch that since Mara Jade was okayed for the current black series of figures that she may be considered canon or brought into the canon at some point.

Two things I didn't mention probably would have made my post clearer:

1- Disney informed Habro NOT to make any more EU figures. We reported this a while ago and I included it in a couple article I wrote about Plagueis and Jade.
2- Mara Jade was rumored to appear in Rebels at some point and was also rumored to be in Episode VII

I just used her figure as an example of an EU character that is still getting released like the Shadowtroopers.

 

Okay... this is the Shadow trooper that's been around for over a decade, from EU...

 

Characters such as Mara Jade are the least likely to be revisited by the new canon, which seems odd considering their popularity with fans of the novels, but consider that she had a very close relationship with Luke Skywalker, and the new writers are being given a completely free hand. They're more likely to use background elements (planets, weapons, vehicles, organisations) with no significant impact upon the lives and careers of primary movie characters than those who became inseparable.

 

I understood those point but did put it all together from your statement. However, thank you for clearing it up. Just to counter point I don't feel at this point we are going to see Mara as a canon character but those shadow ST may be more likely to make the cut.

 

I'm not the brightest light saber in the bunch BUT....
Could this new character played by actor John Boyega BE a "ex" Shadow-Trooper?
It seems to make sense if he's wearing all black costumes(as in the online pics & set photos) & his Star Wars character is IDed as a "special forces type Storm Trooper" .
It really doesn't explain the wrecked TIE fighter or why he changes sides but that might be in EP7.

If we're still talking about the possibility of this being an Episode VII leak, it isn't. This is just costume marketing using their own specific terms. Most of the promotional writing is vague and not well written. They have a Sith costume, which they refer to as "dark Jedi," and consists of a black robe. They have a standard stormtrooper costume as well. This black stormtrooper is just their way of adding variety to their line and to entice people that can't decide between dressing as a dark Jedi or a stormtrooper. It isn't a matter of being faithful to cannon or EU material, just business.

 

Well, I understand that the shadowtrooper seems very likely to become canon either in Rebels or the new iteration in Episode VII. I think Mara Jade will become canon through Rebels as well.
