What's everyone's favourite secondary / background character from the OT and why?

As my pic suggests, mine's Nien Nunb. My parents got me the figure (before i'd even seen the films) from a yard sale to placate me when I was having a tantrum and it was one of my favourites. I then saw Return of the Jedi when I was about 5 or 6 and thought he was awesome - he got to take the Falcon for a spin through the Death Star!

Nien Nunb is a really great choice. In fact, I think he would have been my choice, because I'm struggling with who else I might choose.

Crix Madine has always fascinated me. He's clearly done more than his fair share for the Rebellion to be elevated to that rank, and yet we saw or heard of none of it. I wonder what other battles the Rebels, with Madine, fought?

The tauntaun for the same reason. I was so excited when I got the tauntaun. And let's be honest, without the tauntaun The Empire Strikes Back is about 30 minutes long and the Rebel Alliance is probably destroyed on Hoth or shortly thereafter.

Just as you said, as my picture suggests, Amanaman is my all time favorite. I remember having my mind blown away when my best friend got the Jabba The Hutt Dungeon as a gift and I saw that awesome looking yellow and green alien that looked so cool yet so different from any SW figure there was and that I had never seen in ROTJ. To make matters even more awesome was the fact that of the three figures the dungeon brought, Amanaman, Barada and EV-9D9, my best friend greatly disliked Amanaman and imediatly traded him with me for another SW figure. I don't recall which figure I gave him but all I know is that from that point on, Amanaman became my all time favorite and I made it my mission to find him in the movie. Years passed by and somehow I lost that figure but I quickly got him back from the Power of the Force line and up until now he is still with me and is still my favorite as the leader of my Amanin figures!

So many hours of my childhood spent watching Star Wars and just trying to see what new characters and details I could spot lurking in the background... often flicking through the VHS frame by frame (or as close to that as you could get with that old "slow advance" feature).
The Cantina and Jabba's palace just somehow struck a chord with me as a kid.

Not sure I ever really had a favourite background character - I just remember the brief sense of achievement whenever I spotted something I hadn't spotted before... like the Taun-Taun head in Jabba's palace, or seeing Dengar in there among all the other creeps... or the first time I worked out where some of the aliens I'd only seen in photographs before were actually hiding in the cantina.

Has to be Salacious Crumb, Jabba's pouch pet. I loved the muppet type laugh and the great scene when R2D2 gives him an electric shock for eating C3po's eye in ROTJ.

Honestly, I always liked Captain Panaka and hoped to see him in AOTC, but to no avail.

The advisors who hang out with Palpatine. I always wondered what their names are and what their role is in the Empire.

I can at least give you the names of two and their pictures. The first is Kren Blista-Vanee and the second one is Janus Greejatus. On what their roll was I can't say but maybe Kren would take Palpatine's socks off before bed and Janus greeted him in the mornings with a nice bowl of Ackbar cereal!

It would have to be Bib Fortuna. Just because he looks awesome. He was one of my favourite star wars figures as a kid. Also because in the films we don't know much about him. Again it's another example of the allure of mysterious characters.

I felt the same way about a few guys like Dengar and Bosske when I saw them in Jabba's palace! Then my mind was further blown away when I saw A Making Of A Saga and I saw Cane Adiss:

I loved the look on these creatures and I quickly began to look for them in the movie. I found them among the aliens in Jabba's room and that felt like if I had discovered America! After years EU then said that it was really one single creature with two heads. Now that the EU is no more, I wonder if we will ever see him again and if it will remain canon that he has two heads or that they are in fact two separate aliens.

Hmm, lots of good choices. I guess I'll go with Lobot? I liked the way his eyes got wide when Lando "activated" him.

Also, Porkins. I always wondered what his story was. How did he wind up piloting an X-wing in the rebellion's final assault? Was he a former Imperial pilot who was relieved of service for some kind of misconduct, then drowns his sorrows in blue milk?

    Dengar!!!

And I know it's not canon, but I loved his story/backstory in the The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy.
