    Anyone else here make films?

We've (my gf and I) made a few short films, some music video, and "other" video projects. We've also worked on other peoples projects--a feature length film, and a few of their shorts. Nothing glorious, yet, but we're what you could call student film-makers who are at the point we've been offered money to do projects, but aren't quite to the point we'd charge.

Is anyone else trying to live that dream?

Made not make for me. Dropped my attempts to join the industry when my first son was born. Directed a few shorts. I was the assistant director on a feature that made it about 80% of the way through production until we ran out of funding. (Back in the days before digital, running out of funding was really the death knell for a shoot) Did the PA and aspiring screenwriter thing for a while. Wasn't really for me. I love the creative process, but I wasn't big on the abuse. :) So, when my son was born I got a desk job and never looked back. I've found I enjoy movies a lot more now from the sidelines than I did when everything was a comparison to what I was working on at the given time.

We're pretty damn small, but I understand the abuse part of it. We have about 13 people behind the scenes, and the biggest thing that I am trying to convey is that we all need to work together to get things done, and not fight over who's got the most inches. So far, we have good people.

I'm 35, so I was born and could have started in the time of "film," but I am so excited that digital exists. A few class 10 cards, a DSLR, a good lens selection, lights, a couple green-screen kits, and some audio equipment and it's pretty easy now days. I would hate wasting film--so hard to train people when to roll, when to cut. I'm sure I would have been a massive Peedunky back in the day with film, but with "Free-rolling cameras," it's a lot better--other than the battery.

Editing software from digital is probably a blessing, too.

Hopefully you can get back into it.

I'm an low-level film maker. You can check my stuff out on YouTube. Here are more videos edited for a group project with friends called AppleJax. Most of these videos are pretty old though.
