Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive “first listen” of the Rogue One music composed by Michael Giacchino. In a 2 minute video you can see director Gareth Edwards speaking to the orchestra before they start conducting the music, and you can listen to two songs from the movie: “Her Path Is Clear,” and “Approach to Eadu,”. Check it out.

Fun fact: the timpani player is Don Williams, brother of John Williams. :)

These brief minutes of Star Wars music really prove that John Williams has a worthy successor.

EW also posted the full interview (parts were posted a few weeks ago) with the composer.

Make sure to check EW's article for a full interview with Giacchino.

Hard to judge in a few seconds of music but I liked it. The second piece sound like Williams. While I do love familiar music, I hope Giacchino makes his own mark in the Star Wars family with his music. Sounding good so far!!

I enjoy them. Stylistically, they are very similar to what John Williams gave us in "The Force Awakens." Not sure if it's a positive or negative, just an observation.

I think that will do quite nicely.

Missing JW has been one of my bigger worries.

I am with Gareth, it made me tear up. I was always optimistic, but with every passing day, I feel more and more that we are in for something special. Move faster, time...

Was the title list that leaked yesterday ever confirmed to be legit? These 2 titles aren't on that list.

I can definitely hear the John Williams influence, but there's also the familiar Giacchino movements sprinkled throughout - especially in the second piece where it comes through front-and-center.

    Anxiously awaiting the full score.

Interesting you are correct. One could be a matter of translation (they translated from English to Polish and then back to English) with Approach to Eadu and 9.Confrontation on Eadu (From "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"/Score)The other is a bit more difficult to account for the discrepancy although I could see a stretch being made with one.

    (Editted to correct mix up)

Sounds like it's just what I thought it was going to be: Giacchino channeling Williams stylistically, probably with some of his more powerful/emotional string writing when appropriate.

Soundtracks usually don't get translated though and it's called "Approach to Eadu".

Polish edition of soundtracks/scores for Disney films don't include title translations for pieces of music other than songs - they text, as well as their titles, are translated to Polish.

True enough. Sorry I was switching back and forth between screens looking into the matter and got mixed up in the comparison. So yeah both could be busts.

For what it's worth, differing names on Giacchino's cue sheets don't mean the tracklist is fake. Names always change once the CD is made, because usually the cue sheet names are either boringly technical or not descriptive enough. :)

I could see that being the case. They could have changed the titles from the time they were initially recorded for the movie to the time the tracks were edited-finalized for the publishing of the soundtrack.

I think that's unlikely though, considering that this is official marketing material that's released a week from the release.
That tracklist always looked weird to me and I actually wouldn't be surprised if the samples were released because of the alleged leak.
