Here's how I think everything's going to play out, based on what we've learned so far. Everything is listed in order of introduction:
    • Act One:
      • Jakku.
      • Finalizer.
      • Millennium Falcon.
      • Pirate Frigate.
    • Act Two:
      • Takodana.
      • Flashback.
        • Bespin.
        • Tatooine - unless the desert part of the flashback takes place on Jakku, which I kind of doubt.
    • Act Three:
      • Starkiller Base.
        • Possibly some planets that get blown up by Starkiller Base.
      • Yavin IV.
      • Omereth.
So, in short, it seems as though we're going to see at least six - possibly seven - planets and three major ships serve as settings for the movie. Neat!

Great post dude. Not sure about Omereth - where did that come from?

I'm really using "Omereth" as a placeholder name, but Skellig Michael does match up with the description the planet was given in Heir To The Jedi. "Devaron" is also being thrown around as of late.

Thanks man, I was following "Devaron" from the new Luke novel, hopefully we get some new pics from the next trailer or some subtle hints in Shattered Empire 2/3/4 to line up. Best of all would be both!

Is the Tatooine part of the flashback referring to the scene from Trailer #2 in which we see (presumably) Luke with R2D2 at a campfire?

Very neat, 3 great acts, I can't wait for Starkiller base to do it's worst on nearby Omereth, save Yavin IV to saved at the last moment., The Finalizer must have been the star destroyer Kylo was flying to.

I think that what you believe to be Tatooine might actually be Devaron. I'm confused as to how Yavin IV fits in?

I think that @Pomojema suggests that the Resistance base (where Leia is assumed to be) will be located on Yavin IV.

Just saying that's far more planets than we've ever visited in a single movie (excluding ROTS where we saw glimpses of many planets during the execution of order 66).

I would love to see Yavin IV get destroyed by Starkiller Base. Do the job the Death Star failed to do. Maybe puts "I will finish what you started" into perspective. Maybe General Hux says it to a picture of Great-Granddaddy Tarkin?

It will be Hux's greatest moment in the movie, Tarkin had his with Alderaan, now Hux gets his,one act of genocide 4 planets over at least.

If the Starkiller weapon actually kills (removes) stars (as it claims to do) then it doesn't actually destroy the planet - but instead ejects the planets into the void.

Unless Star Killer does something else - like turn stars into black holes... or make them go supernova...

Either way, the Galactic Atlas is going to get pretty F'd up by the Starkiller weapon if it isn't destroyed soon. Destroying stars changes the landscape of the galaxy, whereas destroying a planet here or there doesn't alter the galactic atlas that much.

Well the death star's destruction of Alderaan got the rebels attention, when the Starkiller weapon's first strike happens I hope it strikes like this.

Destroying the star would immediately kill everyone on the planets orbiting the planet. Imagine the world's worst earthquake then multiply it by 20 and encompass the entire planet.

Not necessarily - depends on if the star simply disappears or turns into something like a supernova/black hole.

If the star simply vanishes then the speculation is this would happen:

    Yes and yes.

"Tatooine" could be any desert planet. The only reason I think it might be there is for the sentimental value for the fans and because, in-universe, the setting is far removed from widespread attention, which might be good for rebuilding a persecuted religion.

"Yavin IV" I used because the BTS reel shows a background that strongly resembles the Massassi Temple and the computers used inside it. It doesn't hurt that there are blueprints codenamed "Massassi Temple" for that very location.
I don't see any description indicating that Devaron is partially desertous, but... maybe.

Yavin IV would work fine. I doubt the FO has that many records from the Empire, and any they would have would basically state that they went to the last known location of the Death Star and found what might have been a Rebel base but it was abandoned already. Much like ANH. So, it's probably not that important to the FO.

Then the Resistance is getting set up, finds a spot that worked well for the Alliance 35 years or so previous, and decide to use it themselves.

If a star disappears, then the planet would immediately take of in whatever it was traveling when it disappeared, the inertia would send every human on the planet flying at thousands of miles an hour into the nearest structure, assuming that structure wasn't also ripped to pieces from the sudden change of forces.
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 16, 2015, Original Post Date: Sep 16, 2015 ---
And if that doesn't do the trick, there's nothing left to heat the planet or provide it with energy.

Yeah even assuming the star simply vanishes, human/alien survival on the surrounding planets is not even a possibility unless you're in an off-world environment with artificial gravity and a power source not dependent on the sun. It would be cataclysmic on the planetary surfaces, sudden collapse in temperature, extreme tidal shifts, and whatever happens when a planet in orbit is suddenly unmoored and spiraling out into the void. Would love to see them try to depict this and its aftermath.
