Grand Admiral Thrawn in Rogue One?

I actually like Thrawn, but I don't see much point in putting him in Rogue One. With the rumors that he will be in Rebels anyway, that makes it even less likely IMO. Additionally, if Thrawn is ever brought into canon, it would be stupid not to bring his appearance into canon as well. Otherwise it would make more sense to create a new Grand Admiral character who isn't Thrawn.

I think the audience is smart enough to distinguish between Star Wars and X-Men , its not like Star Wars hasn't had blue aliens before.

Once again, the audience isn't dumb. Yondu's blue skin isn't likely to influence the course of Star Wars films anymore than the appearance of a green skinned woman in Star Trek influenced the course of Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora still had green skin after all . Additionally, it must be noted that people who watched Guardians of the Galaxy didn't get confused by Yondu's blue skin and think that it was an X-Men movie either.

I think we will see both instances, characters that are obviously inspired by old EU characters as well as the re-canonization of other notable ones like Thrawn and Revan. As a matter of fact Freddie Prinze Jr who plays Kanan on Rebels confirmed that quite a few Legends characters will live again on Rebels. A character like Thrawn is much more likely to appear in Rebels than in a movie.

 

So who is wearing the Imperial uniform in the R1 trailer that looks like Thrawn's?

I'm wondering if this is going to be their version of Thrawn? We know he is planned for Rebels so it fits the timeframe. Other than not being blue, Ben looks the part!

That's an interesting theory... I could buy in to it.. plays well in to the theme of the children carrying on the work of their parents that is so prevalent in The Force Awakens.

 

Quick off-topic regarding that...if his dad worked directly with the jedi then I wonder how Hux 2.0 came to hate them so much.

I said this in another thread but the simplest explanation could easily be that the figure is another costume for Ben Mendhelson.

Aliens are... Living creatures too. They deserve to rule & conquer & kill entire species off just as much as humans do.

So Thrawn be my guest and be blue while owning the entire fleet.

Here are my thoughts on the Thrawn discussion and coming from some one who has basic knowledge of the beloved character from a friend of mine.

First, I think they should keep the blue skin and red eyes since it is such a iconic portrayal of Thrawn. If Disney was to step away from that then everything else about Thrawn has to stay the same to still give us the satisfaction of Thrawn. If not, it is simply a "Thrawn-like" character.

Second, I do not believe he is in Rogue One but could be proven wrong, I do believe we will see him appear in the Rebels TV Show.

 

This! Brendol Hux was an admirer of the Jedi order. And still we don't know who General Hux mother was, why he was raised by a nanny droid and now Pablo confirmed that he will get a first name, and his first name won't be "Brendol"- I guess there is more to come

I'm not even certain of that. He wears the uniform of the right hand man of Admiral Motti (just a single-line rank badge with 6 bars in ANH!) during the Death Star conference (IMHO, originally supposed to represent the Death Star's staff engineer, a member of the Imperial Security Bureau according to EU and in particular The Clone Wars' older Yularen).

IIRC, the ISB made it into new canon with Agent Kallus being a known member in Rebels.

Already in ANH the coding of the rank bars deviated from those of other military members (i.e. 3 + 3 colors). The only thing that far that seems certain is that the new character in Rogue One outranks his colleagues from the Death Star.

 

I would love to see Thrawn, but the person in the trailer looked human. It would completely ruin the intimidation factor of Thrawn. The character that we saw did have the Grand Admiral uniform, so maybe he is going to be a newly named character.

First off, i think that plucking pieces from EU to reintroduce such elements as Admiral Thrawn is something i would certainly like. While many dont agree with Disney eliminating the EU, such as myself i have no problems with them reintroducing many great pieces that were created. I dont think it should be dismissed, remember Disney wants to expand the franchise, you dont do that by restricting the franchise they need to branch out, they basically have a clean slate and move forward.

 

Disney's version of Thrawn... They did it with the force awakens with ben solo.







Look at what he is holding.... a blaster, look at his toy, he has a blaster. Look what's on the screen behind him, a hint of him studying something like thrawn would! Both have the same rank, but yes different colors but still. First admiral to have white uniform from what I recall.

 

What would be the purpose of changing such an iconic character from EU, even though they threw him out and making him human instead of an alien? I understand the anti-alien situation with the empire, but we want to expand the universe not bottle it up. Disney does this and makes him Thrawn without the blue skin and red eyes, they are idiots. It could really stir things up, but i think in many ways Disney is just playing it safe unfortunately. I could be wrong, but so far it looks like they are playing it safe.
