The general moviegoing audience needed to be reminded what Star Wars was. They disliked A Phantom Menace, many didn't bother with Attack of the CGI (which sucked the most out of the prequels) and Star Wars was basically made into a tired joke when the Clone Wars movie came out in cinemas.

Star Wars was at the end of it's rope, and it needed to be shocked back to life with a soft reboot.

Most of the "rehashed" stuff you see is done in terms of visuals anyway. The sand planet, the X-wings, Maz Kanata supposedly being a female Yoda (in appearance only) and the third Death Star.. which I make no excuses for. That was the only aspect of the film which pushed too far into being "A New Hope 2.0." for me, and I am completely fine with that.. because Star Wars clearly is now bigger than ever.

They succeeded at making Star Wars cool again, and the original films were made for general moviegoers too; remember that.

People would have complained even more if the film was too unfamiliar to them. They would have called it The Phantom Menace 2.0 if the costumes all looked different and none of the characters were what they'd seen before.

Would you rather get no more Star Wars? Why dedicate so much time to bashing these new films? Just ignore their existence and pretend it ended with Return of the Jedi.. stop making fans of these new films feel like idiots for enjoying something.

I'm lost for words for this portion of the Star Wars fanbase, who see no merit in what J.J. managed to do with episode 7. It's arguably the best directing job ever seen in the history of science fiction cinema too. It's disgraceful that J.J. is being made to feel like failure by so many people, when he was give no time whatsoever to rewrite the script (even while sets were already being built) and wasn't even given a huge budget either.

J.J. nailed it in my opinion. If you see nothing good in episode 7, then just don't be a fan of the current gen of Star Wars and leave the new fans alone. People actually dedicate loads of time to "Disney Star Wars" hate channels, taking little clips of Mark Hamill to make it seem like it hates them. Do you want to make Disney fall out with him?

Anyway screw these people who do stuff like that. I grew up watching the original on repeat until the VHS wore out.. there was no better director for this new generation of Star Wars than J.J. Abrams. Let episode IX prove the haters wrong and long live Star Wars.

Umm....I don't think that there isn't a person in this forum that wouldn't consider this thread to be the biggest "Attempted Troll" at present. Please explain to me why this is necessary.

EDIT: What?? @Grand Admiral Kraum how can I change your mind about that Dislike rating that you left for me??

    I Don't care, it was a fair question. ;)

I think this is a failed parody of the "Kathy remake the prequels" thread.
Which was absurd and therefore funny.

The Force Awakens wasn’t horrible, it was just lazy. And what gull you have criticizing the PT then coming out and telling what those who find flaws in TFA should do! Just because your views skew mainstream doesn’t make you better.

People don't want the new movies to be anything like the OT whatsoever... But they demand complete and total remakes of the PT. THIS FRIGGIN' FANDOM, I SWEAR!

I just want a faithful adaptation of the Christmas Special.
You know, which was done for the sake of story and certainly wasn't a cheap money grab.

Apparently you don't know what you're talking about because it's called The Star Wars Holiday Special. You can't even get the title right..
