Warning! Spoilers for the new books, comics, and TV shows!

It seems that the two prevailing theories about this new Admiral from Aftermath and Lost Stars are that he's either Snoke (a relatively new one) or that's he's Admiral Thrawn or a character patterned after him. I have an idea (and sadly with no real basis or argument behind it); what if this new character is both? What if Snoke is the Thrawn of the new canon?

Now I have no experience with Thrawn, so I can't personally speak for him; but from what I've been hearing, this new admiral seems to have the same mindset or characteristics that Thrawn carried. And from what we've seen of his leading skills, patterns, and ideologies, starting a new regime patterned off the old one, but with himself as the leader (especially if this new admiral considers himself in any way to be the "heir" to the Empire) seems completely feasible.

But isn't Snoke a confirmed Dark Side user? I believe JJ said so, but that doesn't stop this theory. As we know from the comics, TV shows, and movies, Palpatine was not above using Dark Side users in various ways, be it as assassins, Inquisitors, or just (replaceable) apprentices. He was open to using technology to counter or complement the Force, and even Vader himself wasn't always privy to the plans beforehand. Besides, the Imperial Fleet was a HUGE piece of moving parts - slipping in a Dark Side force sensitive user that wasn't fully trained wouldn't be too hard. Maybe Vader even approved of it. Maybe this is what happened to the Inquisitors (or, you know, they all died. But that's speculation for another time). "Away with the old ways." That was the quote or something similar to it from A New Dawn. I could totally see Palpatine (and then this new admiral) embracing that logic.

But isn't Snoke supposed to be Plagueis? While I did find that reasoning to be pretty cool and possible, I'm actually not sure how probable that is now. Oh, I think Plagueis will make a live appearance sometime, but I'm not sure when or how. Besides, we have a new character to speculate the identity of, so why not! :)

Anyways, these are just some thoughts on a Sunday night while procrastinating. But what do you all think? Am I crazy? Do I have a chance of being right? Is thinking about being right crazy? Thanks and let me know!

This was my exact thought when I read the epilogue of Aftermath (ps: is the admiral also in Lost Stars?). I immediately thought it was Thrawn by then thought how cool it would be if Snoke was a reimagining of Thrawn for he ST. Especially the way he is humming a "classical" tune as we know Thrawn was a huge student of the arts. And he does have the mastermind vibe going along with the fact that he has been operating beyond the outer rim. I think Snoke=JJ's version of Thrawn and if so, this will be exciting to see. It really is he perfect way to go about it, he won't render Thrawn's story from the Legends books invalid and he will still get to revisit the character in a way.
