Bo-Katan was introduced to live-action audiences in The Mandalorian season 2, with Katee Sackhoff reprising the role she first voiced in animation across several seasons of The Clone Wars and later Rebels. After the season 2 finale, it was clear that she and Mando would be seeing each other again very soon and exchange a few words -- and possibly a few punches -- over the ownership of the Darksaber.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Sackhoff explained that, because she knows the character so well by now, showrunner Jon Favreau and the entire team behind the series allowed a lot of input from her while making season 3:

The actress also revealed that, while up to five different women donned the suit on the set of the third season, she still left some signature moves across a few sequences:

Bo-Katan is on a quest to retake the Darksaber so she can take over Mandalore and unite her people. But she will face harsh opposition from Din Djarin, who seeks forgiveness for his transgressions -- removing his helmet and breaking the strict code of his clan.

The Mandalorian returns with new adventures on March 1. Stay tuned for more on the new episodes!

From everything we've seen lately, it seems like this sort of open-door collaboration is nothing but a good thing and writers, directors and actors have different perspectives that need to be utilized. RR took ideas from Tem Morrison, I believe Ewan had input on OWK, and Gilroy treated his actors basically like writers letting them hone their characters and scenes. It makes sense when you have a bunch of talented, creative folks, use every resource available.

In an interview, Giancarlo Esposito, the actor who plays Moff Gideon, said he once asked Jon Favreau about his character's motivations in a particular scene. He said Favreau replied, "What do you think? At this point, you know this character better than anyone else here." He said that was one of the most validating things a director has ever said to him.

Katee brings the pain. She really kicks ass. When I first heard she was going to be in the third Riddick movie, I was practically jumping up and down because not only am I her fan, but I'm a big Riddick fan as well. I was not disappointed in the least; she really delivered some ass-beating. She brought a great deal to the film, as she always does, all the way back to re-creating Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica reboot) and very frankly making Starbuck a much more interesting, three-dimensional character. She's irrepressible. And she's got fists like bricks. No one else can play Bo-Katan.

You bring up an excellent point about what she brought to the Starbuck character. I'm not a huge fan of the 2003 BSG. I do admire what she and her fellow cast did to turn a bunch of silly 70s sci-fi personas into fully fleshed out relatable characters. I hope the eminent reboot will be founded on their work and not try to rehash it from the OG. But yes, I think that she's the kind of actress that sorta gets typecast for all the good reasons. She has that certain something where she becomes the character. Giancarlo Esposito is of the same ilk. Gus Fring was one of the best bad guys ever, yet there were times you actually pulled for him. I hope that's the direction they're going with Gideon.
