SPECULATION Length of the movie

If it's less than 2 hours, I won't be happy. If it's only 90 minutes, I won't be very happy at all.

 

I would have no problem if JJ extended this SW movie to 2 and 1/2 hours, because there is alot to establish to the audience after 30 years. The worst thing they could do is rush the movie and lose some good character development among the big 3 and the new characters.

I am not a big Star Trek Fan, and did not see JJ's Star Trek reboot movies, but how long were they?

 

I believe it's going to be 1 hour and 55 minutes long, and fans all over the world will complain how short it is. Mark my words.

 

They're all generally 2 hours and 15 minutes or so.

And can we stop comparing everything to JJ's involvement in Star Trek? My goodness. He wasn't even involved in the script (which, oh by the way, has a lot to do with run time).

Yeah, for all the time elapsed since Epiosde VI and the huge level of production this is, less than 2 hours would feel like a rip-oiff. Thankfully I think this isn't even a possibility just based on what they have to get into this movie.

 

regardless how long it will be after the final cut, they will probably have soooo much filmed material that we can look forward to a DVD/BluRay release with a lot of deleted & extended scenes (hopefully over an hour) ´feeling optimistic´

 

Needs to be 3 hours long Bring it on in full, overblown glory.
What if they do with these movies what Peter Jackson did to LOTR? Release them about 2 hours theatrically, then add an additional hour of extended and new material in the DVD releases?

Shouldn't be a minute over two hours and fourteen minutes.

 

Depends how much action and spectacle you want to have.

The length of the films is predicated of how much of that Lucas determined it needed. ROTS could have been the same story but it would have been the easiest thing in the world to have all the action sequences longer like the LOTR movies did. For the extended editions it was more the character material that got cut than action material.

The open alone would have easily been twice as long. The early edits were over an hour. Not that it was ever going to be that long but he threw in everything he could think of and then spent the next 18 months whittling it down to what the movie really needed.

 

I hope Episode VII is a minimum of 2.5 hours long. Limiting the length of these films would not be a good thing, let them be as long as they need to be to tell the story right. I'll be happy if Disney comes out with extended editions of these films as well as the first six parts of the saga.

 

Hi All

I was looking at the latest pictures sneaked out off the film set, and browsing the Cantina when it occured to me that this film is going to be on the screen for a while.

Are we approch LOTR epic levels or we getting wall to wall Star Wars squeezed into 2 Hours Marvel Avengers style?

As brief as it sounded at the beginning of the year they seem to have been hiding sets and sneaking around the UK for a while now.

And food for thought what if JJ is not only filming episode VII but episode VIII at the same time (Joking, but not).

 

I can't imagine it'd be any longer than two hours.

Even two hours would be pushing it.

Seems like we have a lot of film to squeeze into two hours from the locations visited. Let's hope the story stays focused, without to much going backwards an forwards from planets.
