I read Tarkin and found it to be absolutely awful writing. There was a whole lot of telling and not enough showing if you know the old writer's saying. It read like a role playing game supplement - lots of company names and model numbers. I put it aside about 5 x before being able to choke it down. Dreadful writing.

Anyway, was thinking about picking up Lords of the Sith but before I regret that - how is it?

I read the book in a week and 2 days which is the quickest out of all the new novels, personally i feel it is the best and its very easy to follow unlike Tarkin. Highly recommend it!!!

I didn't have the same opinion of Tarkin, so I'm not sure if LotS will seem that way to you or not. However, I recently read some criticism of the writing in this book. I can't remember where... it may have been on these forums. I believe the complaint was about printing errors and even some grammar issues. But I'm just one chapter in, and so far so good.

During the time between posts above - I read some more reviews on Amazon. I was in a big Star Wars need content mood - and lo and behold - A New Dawn was available on Kindle for $1.99 so I snatched it. So there's my fix for now. But really thinking about reading the Han Solo and Lando Calrissian trilogies again. Han Solo's Revenge is the blast. And Land Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu is something everyone needs to read while drinking a Colt 45 (or 12)

Don't waste your time with LotS. The book is more about the event that LANDS Palp/Vader on the planet, rather than what they DO on the planet.

If you want a quick plot summary, I could explain it in 3 sentences.

This is absolutely the truth. I feel as though the description of the book is misleading. My recommendation would still be that this is worth reading, but I put it at the bottom of the list of new canon books.

Glad to read all of the opinions....duly noted. I just read Heir to the Jedi and it had too many "earth slang" words in it that were coming from Luke's mind and mouth...it bothered me. I think that I'm not interested in Tarkin as either a person or a novel, and the above opinions have solidified that. I also think (unless I get bored) that I'll forego LoTS also and just wait it out for Aftermath in September. Thanks for the reviews...it helped.

It took a little while to get into, but I liked Heir to the Jedi. It is a very... casual... book, but that's okay too. In the end, it was a good story. I absolutely recommend Tarkin because it informs our understanding of the relationship between Tarkin and Vader, which plays into what we see on-screen in ANH. I think that was one of the goals of that book, and it achieved it wonderfully. Best book of the bunch has been A New Dawn; an opinion that I know flies in the face of some of the reviews that are out there.

But LotS... I don't know. It was much more a book about the Free Ryloth movement than it was about how Vader and Palpatine work together. The set-up to the story and the Twi'leks' Imperial insider, Belkor, was a fun read, but ultimately the book was not at all what it was advertised to be.
