Some newly-registered trademarks filed by Lucasfilm have fans speculating that a new Star Wars project may soon be announced.

Last weekend, fans discovered that trademarks for multiple terms tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe were hastily filed ahead of the company's Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. While some have yet to be definitively proven, several key trademarks - including 'Multiverse Saga', 'Captain America: New World Order', 'Thunderbolts', 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty', and 'Avengers: Secret Wars' - were all confirmed to be authentic when Marvel announced them to a crowd of thousands of adoring fans. Others, such as the alleged title for the in-development Shang-Chi sequel (with a trademark registered as 'Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time'), have yet to be proven as authentic, and some speculate that the next iteration of the Disney D23 event may be where more films and shows are formally revealed.

Naturally, this led inquisitive minds among the Star Wars fandom to see if Lucasfilm filed any trademarks around the same time (hat tip to the folks at r/StarWarsLeaks). Yesterday, it was discovered that Lucasfilm filed three similar trademarks: 'The Great Circle', 'The Galactic Circle', and 'Circle of Resistance'. While none of these trademarks are explicitly tied with Star Wars, the terms used on the second and third trademarks include terms commonly associated with the franchise. It's been clear for a while that Lucasfilm has opted to deprioritize works that are not tied to their in-house intellectual properties (basically just Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Willow these days), so it seems unlikely that this would be for a new IP.

All three trademarks are classified under the '9' and '41' labels; looking back at Lucasfilm's previous trademarks for frame of comparison, the internal classification of some of these trademarks under the '9' and '41' labels match up with previous series and films developed by Lucasfilm in the Disney era, with RebelsThe Force AwakensRogue One, The Last Jedi, ResistanceGalaxy of Adventures, The MandalorianThe Rise of Skywalker, Jedi Temple Challenge, The Bad BatchThe Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi having one or both classifications, along with upcoming or announced projects.

If the trademark is indeed for an upcoming show or movie, then the earliest we may get confirmation is the Lucasfilm panel at Disney D23, barring an announcement released through the trades. On the other hand, there are also trademarks for things that have not manifested as of yet, such as 'Skywalker Academy', or things that Lucasfilm have passed on, like Children of Blood and Bone (which is now proceeding at Paramount). We'll just have to wait and see if anything comes of this.
