    Luke at that point felt confident he could defeat Vader once and for all so why not pursue him? I would have in his position. Little did Luke Know Vader was toying with him. He was very easy on him at the beginning, he was testing him. Vader could have killed him from the off if he had wanted to but he needed to try to get Luke on his side. It's as simple as that really.
