I enjoyed the movie from start to finish, that why I saw it 17 times, Han's death was a shocker, months of speculation that a dark cloud was hovering over his character not realising they were right, great performance by all the cast, JJ, KK & Disney did a fantastic job.

I'm not going to review it... but compare it.

To me the film is the 2nd best of the series... Empire is better.

I think it's better than ROTJ for the following reasons:

the characters & dialogue are far more interesting & more well thought out... ROTJ battle of Endor sequence (space) battle was better than TFA... & Luke's confrontation with the Emperor & Vader are more dramatic... but over all I felt TFA outdid Jedi otherwise.

When I re-watch ANH... I usually enjoy the first 70% of the film more than the rest... while I feel like TFA on rewatch leaves you waiting for the next exciting moment... like even after the exciting end battle... you still have seeing Luke to look forwards to. While I feel like for it's time & given a side by side comparison ANH would be the better film to watch for a new audience in 1977... I'd still prefer to watch TFA over that, even though there's a lot of brilliant cinematographical analogies & all that.

Here's the cool thing though guys... now we will soon have 4 great Star Wars films to watch at home to watch in preparation for 8 when the time comes. I truly feel like TFA enhances the experience of watching the OT, since now it's sequential & you know you have that to look forwards to :)

    So here's my rankings

    1. ESB
    2. TFA (by a hair better)
    3. ANH
    4. ROTJ (ANH & ROTJ are a tie for me... I have more fun watching ROTJ but ANH first hour is just sooo, soooo good.
    5. TPM (I know, weird... I do get the goosebumps at certain spots in TPM, same can't be said for the others.)
    6. ROTS
    7. AOTC

Only 6 times? how about watching it a 7th time? (I watched it only once, you guys must be rich or own a bootleg)
    --- Double Post Merged, Jan 4, 2016, Original Post Date: Jan 4, 2016 ---
    Are you serious or joking?
If you watched it 17 times in the cinema, holy moly, I guess you have no problem in generating money.

(I watched TFA on 23th dec. and only watched 2 movies at home since that day)
I'am currently playing Star Wars Battlefront on PS4, the game has flaws like the movie, but I'am enjoying it more as TFA.

I suppose I'am looking like a beginner in this thread, I just watched the movie once.
I'am planning to see it again, but I will probably wait for the blu-ray release.
If the ticket prices would be lower, then I would have watched already a second time.
I'am not stingy, but 14,50 euros for one ticket (15,70 Dollars) for this price I could buy the Blu-ray in april. (if I wanted to)

Thanks for information, sounds like a good deal, the tickets in germany are expensive. I bought two 3D tickets for 29€ converted 21£ - it's a rip-off :(
Popcorn, snacks, nachos/tortilla chips, soft drinks are beyond a normal prize imagination.
As example: a cup coke 0,5L and medium popcorn cost 9,50€ converted 6,95£
If you buy nacho tortilla chips with cheese dip and a big coke it will cost you around 11,50€ converted 8,40 £
I went with my wife and spent 50€ "converted 36£" for 2 1/2 hour. (two 3D tickets, two medium drinks and medium sized popcorns)

I'm sure the popcorn & drinks were the cause for extra, I brought my own drinks being 2 2l Coke zero & 2 bags of Butterkist toffee popcorn.

along with a few million others... i have been waiting for this film since i left the cinema 10 odd years ago after watching ROTS.

so dec 17th finally arrives. along with my 2 best mates.. we arrived far too early for our 9pm showing and had to sit and wait. #bloodyagonising
9pm finally arrived, and once the trailors had come and gone... the Lucasfilm logo appeared.

now i don't know if anyone else experienced this.. but my exact words at this point were "i'm not ready". lol, after all the waiting, the film was about to start and i didn't feel ready for it. i kinda needed to pause it for a few minutes and pull myself together lol.

my review of the actual film?

overall i loved it. I think the few minutes of Rey near the beginning on her own, and then with BB8 is going to be one of my favourite parts among all of the films. I wasn't sure about Daisey Ridley in the main role... i was wrong as i think she was absolutely brilliant.

    @everyone in the cantina...

whether or not the TFA was as good as you expected... we've got Star Wars films back in our lives people!!!!! :)

That's about on par here; it's about $15 per 3D ticket up here in Alaska; more for IMAX.
We spent $10.75 (~10€) per ticket because we watched it in 2D (there's no point to a 3D viewing of this movie; it wasn't shot using stereoscopics).
Total cost for the evening with snacks and drinks was about $50 (~45€).

Though...for me, this is pretty par for the pricing over time. When I was about 15 in 1994, I'd spend between $10 to $15 total between the tickets and the snacks for just myself. Adjusting for inflation, that would be just under $25 (and that wasn't even HD yet :p).

I loved it, overall. For me, it doesn't eclipse any of the originals. And, in the end, I think it was a bit too dirivative, and leaned too heavily on refferences. Also a big minus for no amputation! :p

But a great start to a new Trilogy! I gave it 4th. No offense, George!

One Star Wars fan's honest critique of the Force Awakens. A wonderful film that has reintroduced Star Wars to the millennials while staying true to the series as a whole. Do you fall into the satisfied crowd or were you upset because of the similarity between this film and a New Hope? Read why this fan says if you are you need take a deep breathe and chill out.

A lot of passion behind this review. I get the feeling you don't really like JJ Abrams...

I wrote my Review here: https://markansblog.wordpress.com/2015/12/18/star-wars-the-force-awakens-movie-review/
"There’s been an awakening, and I left the theater dizzy. The impact of this movie is one to be remembered. On the one hand it’s everything the fans were hoped it would be, but on the other hand there’s alot of it to take in, for a single movie. However, the danger is gone. There were so many ways it all could have gone wrong but rest easy because ever since the 80’s the Star Wars is finally a STAR WARS again!
I have never seen such a weird reactions after the premiere of the film, but after I saw the movie I completely understood why. The Force Awakens presents the real rollercoaster of emotions. From action packed adrenaline rushes, pure and genuine laughs to uncertain, incredibly intense duels and the heartbreaking drama – this movie has it all and more! But first, let’s get more into details…"

Now, after a while I decided to expand a little on my experience and to answer about those negative reactions and people that hurt the Star Wars fandom - FULL ARTICLE HERE:
    https://markansblog.wordpress.com/2...actions-and-what-it-means-for-star-wars-fans/

"The first reactions of The Force Awakens were mostly positive and some even pretty overwhelming. That being said, the backlash and the reactions to reactions further on, were inevitable. A week after the movie hit the cinemas the first analysis and other various media has hit the web. There is plenty of story analysis and interesting fan theories, but there are also some ultimately pointless and attention grabbing videos that are only focused on the negative aspects of the movie which acts like hellbent to ruin it for those who liked it. You can find that same kind of people that comment around the internet and it’s pretty ironic when you think about it, because most of them think they’re smarter for being aware of the flaws in the movie and they’ll gladly let you know that, when in reality, the sole focus on certain aspects of the movie limits them from the bigger picture which makes them ignorant and plain stupid.

I’m aware that The Force Awakens has it’s flaws but guess what – No movie is perfect and certainly no Star Wars movie is perfect. We’re not the fans because we think those movies are perfect, we’re the fans because we like them despite their flaws, because there are always plenty of things that makes that Galaxy Far Far Away for what it is, and we are wise enough to acknowledge that. The Force Awakens is certainly no exception..."

    7/10

The characters that had any real development were Finn, Rey, Ben, and Chewie. Everyone other character was just there.

Leaving out way too many details because they were worried they would over explain details like in the prequels.

Pacing is way too quick and as a result the character and plot aren't covered in a natural way.

The score of the movie is the least memorable of all the movies.

Why is there a Resistance when the Republic is in power?

They are a military organization of the Republic; a special forces faction of the military.
"The Resistance was a military organization active in the galaxy approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor. The Resistance, led by General Leia Organa, served as a check against the activities of the First Order, a military junta that carried on the legacy of the Galactic Empire." - Wookieepedia
