Star Wars: Darth Vader - Black, White & Red has been announced by Lucasfilm and Marvel. The series follows in the vein of Marvel's Black, White & Blood miniseries that focused on characters such as Wolverine, Deadpool, and Moon Knight. Darth Vader's turn will similarly be a four-issue anthology written and illustrated by a team of comic book talent.

StarWars.com has revealed first issue's cover by Alex Maleev, along with its solicitation.

The miniseries will see the return of Jason Aaron, who wrote Marvel's flagship Star Wars series from 2015 to 2017. He pens a story that will span all four issues. Aaron compared it to Vader Down, a crossover series which saw the dark lord single-handedly take on the entire Rebel Alliance. He said:

Issue #1 contains a trio of stories by Aaron, Peach Momoko, and Torunn Grønbekk (Jane Foster and the Mighty Thor). Interior art will see the debut of Momoko, who's previously done variant cover art for The High Republic and Star Wars Adventures, and Leonard Kirk, who penciled Han Solo: Imperial Cadet and several Age of Resistance issues.

Kirk also spoke with StarWars.com, where he expressed his excitement to draw Vader at his cruelest:

Star Wars: Darth Vader - Black, White & Red issue #1 will be released on April 26th.

Great creative team Aaron a good writer, and Peach a great artist; at least, I now know this gimmick won't be exploited purely for the art, but will be followed by a good tale as well. (the success of this stunt was utilized on several Marvel comic book characters, now it invades Star Wars lore )

This contrivance was awfully copied by DC comics with Superman BLUE, which I thought was rather cheesy; to say the least, subjectively it wasn't appealing to me, just a blatant dupe.

I have a feeling this stratagem was engineered by Frank Miller's and Robert Rodriguez's adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel, Sin City to film ( a black & white graphic novel / comic book, adapted to a black & white film, ) which had selective color: Sin City color effect:

(Selective color is a photo editing process that highlights one color or a colored object in an otherwise black and white image. This makes the selected color pop. You may want to use this process for artistic reasons or when your image includes many competing colors.)

on the actress's lips: RED and so forth. Selective colors in a black and white film, well, comic books take inspiration from film, and visa versa.

I'm enrolled in a comic book inking class, and drawing the superhero with a live model. This will be an interesting discussion during class.
