On September 2, at the FAN EXPO 2007 in Toronto, there was a Star Wars Rebels panel with Mr Filoni, Vanessa Marshall (Hera) and Taylor Gray (Ezra). Here’s a quick recap of what was revealed to us.

    1) The Trailer. Around noon EDT, the trailer was revealed. However, after the event, my suspicions were confirmed: the trailer was also revealed via social media approximate at the same time. I won’t comment on the content here, as there is already another thread for this. However, I will do say that watching a SW trailer for the first time in a theater, next to 1000+ SW fans is an amazing.

    2) Extra clips. Filoni showed us a few more short clips from Season 4. I will comment them here. I don’t consider them spoilers as the source is not a leak and their content is not a major plot or twist in my opinion. If you still consider these spoilers, I suggest jumping to item #3.

2.a. Hera needs to leave someone in charge of the Ghost. Kallus and Rex hear her orders, but they are confused as to which one is the one in charge. They have a serious and funny argument about it. Filoni also talked about the “Hot Kallus” reaction, and he mentioned that was something they didn’t expected. It just happened and they considered it funny.

2.b. Hera and Ezra in X-wing pilot uniform. Some of these was later repeated in the trailer. This seems to take place as part of a big space battle that we witness for only a few seconds. Apparently, they were trying to break an Imperial blockage on some planet.

2.c. Thrawn chatting with Yularen, who isn’t wearing a black pilot uniform, with a helmet by his left arm.

2.d. Hera and Kanan moments. We heard a bit more dialogue between them, about their relationship, and they get a bit closer than what we saw in the trailer, but another character (can’t recall who) ends up preventing them from kissing. The audience went crazy here. Right after this clip, Vanessa Marshall (Hera) gave her remarks. Obviously she cannot reveal future content, but it seems she was pretty happy with how her character was developed and as well as her relationship with Kanan.

2.e. Sabine’s hair new colour. In another scene with Hera, Sabine is shown with a new hairdo. In most of the trailer, we see Sabine with white/purple hair. In this particular scene, her hair was a lot darker, like black/purple. I know she’s the artist of the group, but I wish she at some point reveals that she changes her hair style due to a particular reason, like life event, mission in life, or symbolizing an emotion like hope, fear, etc. that could last some time, instead of just random changes.

2.f. Ezra and a wolf. This was later repeated in the trailer, so there is nothing new here, other than Taylor Gray (Ezra) commenting afterwards that we’re going to see again Ezra’s abilities to interact with big animals. This was kind of obvious but it was still cool to hear. Why wolves? The panel moderator asked Dave Filoni what was the inspiration to bring those characters. The answer was quite simple. Filoni said: “Well, I like wolves…. And I run a Star Wars show. And if you put them together…” The audience laughed.

    3) New episodes. This was the major treat for us. Filoni said that in Star Wars Celebration, they showed the audience the first episode of Season Four: Heroes of Mandalore Part 1. Their original intention was to show them both: Part 1 and Part 2, but for some reason, Part 2 couldn’t be shown that day, and the audience only got to see Part 1. However, yesterday, we were treated with BOTH episodes, one after the other. I won’t spoil the contents of Part 2 here. All I will say is that Part 2 starts right after the last scene of Part 1. So, if you haven’t seen Part 1 yet, I would say it’s better to wait to October 16 to see both episodes together as this is really a 46-minute story. And both, Part 1 and Part 2 deliver, in terms of action, story content, and character development. These are not filler episodes at all. They are quite a good start for the season. Of course, the experience to watch these 2 episodes with a theatre packed of SW Rebels fans is unbelievable. People cheering, laughing at the same time, clapping at the end of each episode (and the trailer of course).

    4) Cosplay. Not content-related, but worthwhile mentioning the quality of the cosplay for SW Rebels characters: Kanan, Ahsoka, Maul, Sabine, even Thrawn and Governor Pryce. That was very cool to see.

    That’s all folks.
