I can't believe that with 2 movies in production that Star Wars is having zero participation at Comic Con this year.

This is a huge slap in the face to a loyal fan base. People spend a lot of money and time trying to make it to Comic Com. I can't believe Disney and Lucasfilm are doing this.

Oh you can't be serious, this event can't exclude Star Wars, it's a insult.

After regulations at CC it was the most obvious choice, even fans demanded to get a live stream last year. Now Star Wars can do its own thing.
Was there a false advertisement, that Star Wars would be there?

Comic-con doesn't advertise anything. You buy your tickets 6 months in advance. They don't release the panel schedule until 2 weeks before comic con starts.

Rogue one was considered a strong possibility given that TFA was a major headliner last year. There was no reason to think otherwise.

Then they moved celebration up to one week before comic con. I still figured with all the projects in the works they would have something at Comic-con.

If you have never been to Comic con you probably wouldn't understand. For those that do go this is a major kick in the nuts.

Yes, as they had last year and still headlined comic con along with BvS.

This year they moved celebration up to the week before comic con AFTER comic con tickets had already sold out. It was a dick move to folks like me who already bought tickets and make travel arrangements.

...plus it's COMIC con, not big tent pole blockbuster Hollywood movie con. Even though these films appeal to the same crowd, for the comic enthusiasts and the creators who attend these things, the blockbuster movies Have totally ruined the experience. The whole place is clogged with people who want to touch Robert Downey Jr and the actual comics get the shaft.

I'd be stoked if they just had a strong presence for star wars related comics and books personally.

    I completely agree.

As others have reiterated above, Star Wars has Celebration now; it's own internationally travelling convention that's JUST Star Wars. Celebration appeals to the world because it travels - that's a decent system.

I think @Darth Holmes is understandably frustrated due to the change, but expect this more in the future. Disney are strategically doing this so that they can create their own pop-icon conventions... and it's working.

Not only what others have already stated, but I think there are a lot of security concerns and trailers being leaked that have caused Marvel and other companies to consider not having panels at SDCC. It sucks for fans who paid to go to Con and get access to exclusive trailers and whatever only to have it leaked online for everyone to see without going.

    this 1000x.

i've been going to SDCC almost every year for the last 12 years (won't be there this year though). i've seen the convention go through a lot of changes. and since it went all blockbustery it's kinda been a horror.

while it might have been a good bet that something Star Wars would be there, it's never safe to assume anything about the guests in attendance. also, the convention will often have surprises that no one expects.

i'd love to see Star Wars represented at SDCC, but would rather it was more on the merch (book/comic/toys) level. the crowds are unbearable these days whenever "stars" are on the floor, and the atmosphere has gotten crabby and ugly because of the tension between the real nerds who are the heart and soul of the convention and the people who just want to see robert downey junior (or whomever).

True. But security concerns aren't just unique to SD comic con. That's the world we live in now. Exclusive content isn't realistic anymore with everyone having a smart phone. That's why even celebration is showing the trailer then releasing it on TV and online shortly after.

Marvel and DC are certainly not perturbed to be there this year.

This is clearly about Lucasfilm wanting there own thing not about security. Star wars has had a long and storied history at SDCC. If they want to move away from that and devote their time to celebration than so be it. But if that's the case then make celebration accessible to everyone. The worst thing about this is that celebration is in London. Thats an impossible trip for most fans outside of Europe.

Right on the money. It used to be a cool thing for comic fans and collectors, now it has gone mainstream since shows like Big Bang made nerds cool. Now, the Kardashians could make an appearance or other fame seekers, while the nerds who support the comic genre can't afford to get in now. I too wish it would go back to its roots. It should reward those who support their craft.

Not necessarily true. They were pissed when the DeadPool, BvS, and Suicide Squad clips were leaked.

What do you mean? It's now changing locations every year. US and European fans both have opportunities to attend, just not every year. Heck, it was even Japan one year.

I'm aware it changes location every year.

My point is if your going to have celebration over seas why not throw the domestic fan base a bone and make a showing at comic con.

That's what Disneycon is for. Now that they have the rights/ownership of Star Wars and Indy films, they can just use their own con. They're so big they don't need CC at all.

    I don't think that's what Disney's "con" name is .
