    Just some ideas...

I have said before, and will stand by the idea, that Luke may have found himself in a position where what is good for the new Jedi order, or the future of the galaxy for that matter, is at odds with the goals of the new alliance

Daisy, in her quest to find Luke, enters a force temple, somewhat akin to the darkside cave Luke entered on Dagobah. There, she encounters the fallen cyborg Luke, which is metaphorical for the danger faced on the path

The meaning of Luke cutting off Vader's head and seeing his own face has always been open to speculation. Was it simply saying that they were related? Or was it saying that by giving in to anger and striking Vader down, Luke would become Vader-like. Or was it saying that Vader used to be like Luke, and that anyone can fall...

The visions are just that, visions... and they can mean a great many things all together

Maybe the cyborg Luke IS the Darth Vader from the tree cave? He is the physical embodiment of the Dark Side much like the Son on Mortus in TCW. Luke cut of his head and since then he has become more "machine than man" and is now who Daisy faces.

Not sure if the spoiler tags were just for convenience or actually to warn but.. well just everyone know I'll be talking about the spoilers. ;)
I like the idea of Luke having fallen somewhat from his former graces. But instead of him really being the villain, I like more the thought of him being in a state of disarray, or perhaps somewhat in flux between is overall dark and light moods. More of a disappointment to those seeking for an almost deified figure only to find he's imperfect just like everyone else.

So is this "cyborg Luke" thing that is floating around instead to be taken as a vision as opposed to the actual case of the movie? Last I read there was some pretty haphazard speculation in support of him being the cyborg we saw in a leaked image, or similar.

    Balance of the Force...

"The prophecy of the Chosen One was an ancient Jedi legend that foretold the coming of a being who would restore balance to the Force. The idea of balance of the Force, a central tenet of the Jedi Order, referred to the ideal state in which the Force existed in nature, namely as the light side. According to Jedi dogma, the presence of the dark side corrupted and destroyed this natural balance, and the Jedi viewed it as their duty to restore it."

I see this growing belief in the forums that "balance" somehow means that there is an equal weight on both light and dark sides, lending to "if Leia is good, Luke must be going bad" type thing. Naturally, if Luke falls, Leia is the ideal choice for his redemption, not because of a good/bad thing, but because he has strong ties to her, and love (even familial) can redeem.

The Jedi of the prequel trilogy were corrupt. Palpatine used this corruption to seduce Anakin. When Mace attempted to execute Palpatine instead of taking him into custody, that was the final straw... it was the right decision, but it was against the code... which would have been to take him into custody.

The corruption wasn't malicious, it was naive. The Jedi had gone from being the "guardians of the light side of the force" to "the guardians of the Republic" In this, the intent was to protect a democratic government that allowed for the Jedi order to exist. The problem is that it gave them two masters, and when the Republic began to fall through political corruption into being a body that no longer furthered Jedi ideals, they continued to support it, and wound up helping to build the clone army that would hunt them to extermination.

Luke could see this, and make the decision that in order for the Jedi to remain balanced, they must never make that mistake again. They must act always to further the order, and support the alliance only where the goals may be aligned. They may also, if it furthers the order, support other groups... and that could lead them to supporting remnant factions which are less extreme.

There has been "confirmation" that this scene occurred... and there has also been confirmation that Luke is not a cyborg... and there has been "confirmation" that there is more here than is known...

If the scene did occur, and Luke is not a cyborg, then there are two options I can see...

    1) It is someone else, and they are claiming to be Luke

    2) It is Luke but it isn't Luke... i.e. a vision

It all depends on how confirmed the confirmations are

If there had been a "this is pure speculation" tag, I would have used that instead

I don't believe Luke will open up the film Evil. That's not to say he couldn't become evil, but he won't open up that way. This is perhaps the greatest Hero in the history of Story, certainly one of the most popular. You do not make a hero that significant a villain "off screen" somewhere. That would be like in the middle of movie cutting to black and inserting the language "meanwhile while you were sleeping Frodo took the ring, killed all the hobbits and is now running a whorehouse executing random strangers who pass by" back to your movie now.

I know 30 years have passed, but the worlds greatest hero becoming a villain is the story if that is what they are doing. It does not happen off screen.

the vision was two-fold: firstly, it warned that giving into hatred could lead you to become evil, like Darth Vader. secondly, it foreshadows Luke and Vader's familial connection.

having said that, i like the idea of Daisy trying to find Luke and Luke appearing to her as an evil cyborg, only to find out it was a test, not unlike the cave on Dagobah. goodness knows what that could be setting us up for!

I don't think Luke will be evil at all... I do think his agenda will not be in alignment with the alliance, and "bad guy" is a matter of perspective

That is one interpretation of it... however, as noted, that is not the only perspective

The "worlds greatest hero"? Which world would that be? Would that be one of the thousands of worlds that were plunged into famine when the empire collapsed? Or perhaps one where the population was enslaved when the syndicate moved in to fill the void? Or one of the many that fell to the expansion of the smuggler's network...

Luke assassinated the head of state of the empire... hero only to the small band of rag-tag rebels he was with. I think you forget that there are large swaths of the galaxy that do not agree

i think he was referring to the real world, duders...

as for the cave scene, that was certainly what was intended in the film. seeing as to how they didn't even know who Luke's sibling was, or even that Vader was Luke's father until that film, i doubt they were thinking too far ahead...

My point was that (to quote Obi Wan) it's true... from a certain point of view...

There is much speculation that Luke will break bad... what needs to be kept in mind is bad for who? Bad how? The third trilogy was supposed to be more ideological, dealing more with what the true nature of good and evil are. I think we are going to find that it is not as clear cut as we thought...

As for the meaning of the cave... that is what is commonly taken as what happened... that does not mean that is what happened

there's a lot of speculation, period. i like trying to hash out ideas or potential openings in stories, but speculating about possible future events with any degree of accuracy is a foolhardy endeavor. i've been reading the new spoilers and i still don't believe any of them. until i see the first trailer for this movie, i'm not biting. whatever this movie (or trilogy) is "supposed" to be, none of us know.

Wise indeed... the only spoiler that I have read that I put total faith in is the one that says that we shouldn't believe all the spoilers...

Yes I was referring to the real world. Now, I do think its possible Luke becomes dark. I just don't think Luke opens the film as a grand villain of the galaxy. I think perhaps something like, Han gets in trouble and Luke like we have seen before comes to rescue him. Only this time Han dies and Luke is tempted to use the force and things he has learned, perhaps some of them dark things, to bring Han back. That is a moral moment. It is taking what his father wanted to do and giving the power and the situation to accomplish that to Luke. What is good and what is Evil is a great question in this scenario.

I like it... I think more plausible would be that Luke is trying to defeat some threat, and the only way to defeat it would be to kill Han as well... thus the moral dilema.. do the ends justify the means?

I like this. It would be a more believable challenge/temptation for Luke. Luke borg makes me cringe...

But... in the same light as Luke cutting off Vader's head to see his own face... if this were Daisy's test, it could mean that what she is trying to stop, and what she is trying to save, may not be all that different...

And it could just be concept art, we don't know... we DO know that there was concept art of Chewie with a robot arm that did not make it into production... this could be a path that was explored and discarded

Or JJ could just be pulling another long con

Or Luke could be a cyborg... (although we have unconfirmed confirmation that this is not the case)
