First of all we know that an original Ralph McQuarrie design for Jabba's palace has been recycled for the gate:

Secondly here is the concept art for what I believe to be the same location:

I believe this is quite early concept art, as the gate originally didn't have a McQuarrie design.

In fact it's possible that there have been THREE designs for this gate, check out the concept art below (note the Millennium Falcon and 'Alien House' positions)

TMZ photo leak of the 'alien house':

Lastly here's the screenshot of BB-8, i'm not sure whether this is next to the area with the alien house, or whether it's just outside the gates at a second set of fences.. but those fences match up to the annotated concept art I posted a second ago:

I think they've expanded the village area by about 2-3 times compared to the concept art, where everything looked a bit cramped in..

I also think the TMZ leaks were definitely intentional, it's funny how the Millenium Falcon isn't in any of those pictures, why wouldn't the Falcon be there? Judging by the concept art, it seems the Falcon is parked in the village. All the pictures were taken from an angle which was in the opposite direction of where the Falcon should be.

    Anyway what are your thoughts?

If your a concept artist and your job is to show a village with a small landing port do you risk your design by throwing a random space ship in or one that pulls the heart of every SW fan.

The Falcon may land later in the film as well.

It could be as simple as the practical Falcon set, if they used one there like they did at Greenham Commons, hadn't been built yet.

It's interesting that in this concept art there is also a Tantive IV/Blockade Runner type of ship parked next to the Falcon.

I have the Lorne Peterson book Sculpting a Galaxy, about the SW model shop, and they tell the story about the Tantive IV
originally being the Millennium Falcon, and the burger with a speared olive being the inspiration for the Falcon we know.

    Anyway, I digress.

I like this thread too, and it will be interesting to see what ideas folks here come up with.

Not really, you're figuring out where Rey goes throughout the film, @Fartkraum is trying to arange the layout of the village.

The picture with the droid you can see a pod engine or so. That's in the concept picture there in the fourth picture above the main structure. So that's been built.

Now we have seen a few more bits and pieces, I think we have a better understanding of the layout of the Salvage Station.
Once you piece together the sections of the perimeter fence, it falls into place a little easier.
This is what you would see if you looked out towards the gate from the front of the main rotunda at the centre of the station.

So with that it mind, and a bit of detective work on the TMZ photos, here's my attempt at a crude overhead layout of the station with where some of the action we have seen so far may roughly take place...

EDIT: Just to note - I don't think there is any reason to presume "the village" is necessarily near to the Salvage Station. The attack on the village takes place at night, and BB-8 is sent away by Poe. Subsequently, Finn and Poe return to the Star Destroyer and escape before crashing back on the surface and Finn wanders down to the station after regaining consciousness. BB-8 has had all night (at least) to travel away from the village location, and it is unlikely they crash land exactly in the same area they set off from...
