What do you think the plot of Rogue One is about?

I'm leaning toward political / military thriller based on parties involved.

I think it's going to be a good old fashioned war movie that centers around the exploits of a starfighter squadron. What better way to begin the spin-off series than with something that gets back to first principles? Fighter pilots battling it out among the stars?

    Simple, classic, perfect. :)

That sounds pretty awesome. I hope they make it gritty in that you see more realism like in Episode III. Death is important to show if it is depicting a war. I'm not asking for Saving Private Ryan, but I wouldn't mind an increase in the grittiness if it is a good ole fashioned war film.

Supposedly, the concept art was rather dark and gritty, so that would lead me to believe the movie will have more of an edge to it. Which would be great. There's no doubt that a big percentage of the fan base (especially those if us that have been around since the beginning) would like to see a more "grown up" depiction of Star Wars. I continue to feel that going too dark is mistake for the main episodes, but it would be a welcome change in a stand alone movie, and would certainly set it apart from the ST.

Yeah, that concept art description didn't exactly sound like a light-hearted little Disney romp, did it?

That said, a lot of the concept art from the PT films looked a lot grittier and edgier than the movies themselves ended up being. So I think we probably want to temper our expectations somewhat. That said, I'd love to see a SW movie that was aimed at a slightly older audience than what we've seen lately.

I would like to say I think this will be like Top Gun but in space and with more real dogfights rather than mostly training exercises.

I was hoping it'd be the Death Star plan retrieval but setup like Michael Mann's HEAT.

I don't want to see more political stuff we saw enough of that in the PT. Nor do I want to see a Top Gun version of Star Wars, simply because it would be too lame to do something similar, just as some think it's lame to do a death star plan heist. But why does Rogue One have to be about X-wings? Sure it may seem it might be. Disney said announced that their first spin-off would be either Han Solo or Boba Fett what if it still is one of them? I can see Boba Fett being referred to as Rogue one? Then the question is what would he do in the movie?

When I see the word Rogue in reference to Star Wars the next word is immediately 'Squadron.' This doesn't have to be a Top Gun clone set in space. Star Wars is already beyond that. Disney hasn't really come out and said what the spin-offs would be about. I'm really hoping they stay away from making death star heist movies or anything PT-OT related. Quit beating a dead horse. Between all the hints that Gary has given us and even the official twitter account header photo. I'm thinking this is a new Rogue Squadron group formed after ROTJ and Felicities' character is going to be the new Rogue 1. Although, the more I think of it, the more I want this to be set after TFA to tie things together even more.

I voted something else, so I want to clarify my choice.

I'm going with a mixture of elements. My speculation is that it won't just be Top Gun - style. This will be an important element. But, perhaps it wilk also inclue heist/thriller aspects.

Maybe it could be a title with a multi-layered meaning. Much like I suspect/hope the Force Awakens is.

Has anyone made the connection between Boba Fett's Slave I and Rogue One? (granted, that's legends, right?)

Multilayered is right on the money. Star Wars IV was a sci-fi but also fantasy, it was knights of old in space of yet-to-be; military fighter-jet with that American Graffiti youth. It was kind of a seminal distillation of influences as a kid but put in a headier framework, despite the popcorn.

As for Top Gun, please no "Force Volleyball" scenes.

I think that's true of most fans. And I'm sure LFL knows this.

While the speculation game is fun, I really don't think there's any double entendre/hidden meaning here. I think we're looking at a movie about Rogue Squadron, and not some clever little attempt to mislead us with the word "Rogue".

My guess is a war film/fighter pilot with a little bit of Avengers thrown in where it takes a little bit for the squadron to form as a cohesive team, centered around the story of the eventual leader (Rogue One).

Not sure what the timeframe would be or if it is the origins of the Rogue Squadron or just a new generation of Rogues, or even a re-forming of the Squadron with a new generation after a period of absence.

If the movie is not about the adventures and missions of at least one member of Rogue Squadron in which an X-wing is featured . . . then they picked a really really poor title.

Obi Wan as a rogue jedi settling on Tantooine would be cool.
