I'm guessing this will be more important to me than most. But let's vote and see where it goes. Personally, I am a big fan of 3D, and IMAX 3D is AWESOME(yes, I know, I use that word a lot). But now the trend is that movies are doing IMAX and/or 3D, but not IMAX 3D. I will almost always opt for 3D viewing. I own about 50-60 3D BRDs which look great on my Samsung TV with active 3D.

And I'm referring specifically to "big visuals" movies. Sci-Fi, CB/SH, Action-Adventure movies. Examples are the MCU, Star Wars, DCEU, LOTR/Hobbit, X-Men, Mission Impossible, FATF, etc(referring to big movies in general, not just SW). For me, there's no need to pay for premium formats on the rare occasion I go to see a film that's a comedy, drama, horror, documentary, etc

Thoughts?(Thanks for reading my post :)

    Let me help.

I've always watched my movies in stabdard 2d and ONLY ONCE have been to IMAX 20 years ago to see the Rolling Stones: Steel Wheels Tour on the screen in Spokane Washington USA and it was HUGE!!

I have my tickets for TLJ, and this year decided to see it first in IMAX 2D so it makes a BIG impression (pun intended). :D

Are they doing The Last Jedi in 3D? I have read people that they are watching in IMAX 3D but my theater only showing it IMAX 2D even though they did Ep 7 and Rogue One in 3D. So is it only select theaters doing the Last Jedi in IMAX 3D?

I know they are definitely doing standard 3D and IMAX. The IMAX poster for TFA says IMAX 3D. But the posters for RO and TFA only say IMAX.

So I checked for tix in my area on the 16th. My local IMAX only has IMAX 2D. There 2 IMAX theaters in the greater Jax area showing it in IMAX 3D. They are 30-45 minute drives depending on traffic.

BUUUUTTTTTTTT ... i plan to go see it around the 21st to 23rd when - hopefully - the theaters aren't so packed. Maybe if the IMAX 3D tickets sell really well, my local IMAX will add some IMAX 3D screenings.

Either way, I'll be able to see it in IMAX 3D - TY TY for the feedback @Trevor & @deadmanwalkin009 . Now I'm all giddy!!

Interesting. I guess only certain theaters are doing IMAX 3D. I check the various theaters near me and they offer it in regular 3D but for some reason, they are only offering in 2D with my IMAX theater.

In the U.K it seams from my limited experience of seeing previous film in the IMAX format that if a film has a 3D element to it then you only a 3D IMAX option. The 2D IMAX showing seams to be reserved for film not using 3D I.e SPETOR.
Which is the main reason for me only seeing TLJ in 2D as I really don't get on with 3D.
