Philippines guy has to be fake. According to imdb the premiere in the Philippines is on the 16th. It's currently 2:30 AM on the 16th in the Philippines.

 

I think Harloff's tweet translates into "turns out we were wrong about Plagueis, but we are going to try deflect and move on from that by saying how right we were about many other things such as Han dies" etc etc
Otherwise there would be no need to say "turns out we were wrong"

 

But the proof he showed had a date of December 15th for the premiere.

 

Do a google search for that premier. There are no news reports in the past 24 hours to indicate it has already happened.

 

You know what then, so be it. Feel sorry for you if you're that pessimistic. If you were looking for tons of Luke and a real name for Kylo that pleased you, go make a fan film. J.J. didn't make this movie to pleas all the little fan asks in 2 hours. He did it to setup a new trilogy of movies. This a 3 part play.

God forbid this movie makes us think and analyze all of the possibilities.

I'm getting the impression that Maz is going to end up being JJ's Jar Jar. No one likes her.

 

If he actually gave Interstellar a 5/10, then Mendelson's opinion has no meaning to me. Interstellar is one of my favorite films.

First, let me start off by apologizing for my meltdown last night over Snoke. My frustration stems from two points. One is that I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out who he was. The second issue is that people will continue the Darth Plagueis, Darth Vader, Darth Jar Jar, etc., theories for the foreseeable future. So I was pretty annoyed. I apologize for my meltdown.

Before I begin, here are things that you need to know:

THIS HAS REAL, LEGIT SPOILERS. Don't read this if you honestly don't want to be spoiled. Go no further. You have been warned.

I did not ask for every detail of the movie, because I actually want to see it. I only asked about the things of interest to me. But if you have additional questions (and I feel they won't ruin the movie for me), I will be happy to ask on your behalf.

I know what I know from two people. One is my significant other who both worked on the film (but did not know the whole thing obviously) and also saw it during last week screenings. The other person is a friend of mine who was there last night. I will call significant other Dick (he earned it) and my friend Jane (for obvious reasons). It is also important that I give you their genders, because their perspectives are roughly similar, so that tells me the movie has wide appeal.

SPOILERS BELOW

Snoke is either a new character or an old character. We are not told who he is. We are not told his name. He is not called Snoke in the film. We don't know his motivations AT ALL, other than the vague crushing of the resistance. We don't know what dog he has in this fight or what drives him. This is why I flipped out last night. I thought if they were going to make a new character, surely he would have a name. Well, he does not. This also does not put to bed all of the fan theories and arguments. So brace yourselves for more team Plagueis vs . team Revan for at least another year or so.

Dick's reaction to this: He thought it was genius because it leaves open lots of possible scenarios. It allows fans to read into the character whatever they want while at the same time giving the newbies a bad guy of mystery. Dick also thinks that Snoke's identity will be explored in later films.

Jane's reaction to this: It did not bother her at all. She does not know any of the canon, so she had no investment in this character. She liked him. Thought he was menacing. She too agrees they will likely explore him more in later films.

Kylo is Han and Lei's son. This is stated in the film (I did not ask where or why, because I want that surprise. I don't want to see it coming). He indeed does slaughter students at the Jedi Academy, but we don't know why. We don't know his motivations or reasons for his anger. We don't know anything. We do know that he was not kidnapped. (I did not ask about the sword or the helmet, because I want those to be a surprise). We also find out Kylo's real name. I did not want to know, I want to be surprised. But he has a real name that is not Kylo Ren.

Dick's reaction to this: He loved the character. He thought Kylo was tragic and evil. He describes him as conflicted and lost. He feels sorry for him, but does not know why. He thinks Kylo's fall will be explored in the later films. He is not sure if a redemption is possible.

Jane's reaction to this: She also loved the character. She interestingly also described him as conflicted. She said they don't explain why he is conflicted or what his motivation is. But she loved the character and also thinks they will give him more of a backstory in the later films. She thinks he will be redeemed (she hopes he will be).

Rey is NOT confirmed to be anybody. She is not explicitly said to be Luke's daughter or Han's daughter.

Dick's reaction to this: He believes it is obvious she is Luke's daughter and that only "idiots would think otherwise."

Jane's reaction to this: She believes that Rey is Luke's daughter and that the reveal will be in the next film.

Both said that Rey's backstory is pretty empty thus far.

Han dies. He is killed by Kylo.

Dick's reaction to this: He thought it was a monumental moment in the Star Wars franchise. He thought it was "epic" and unlike anything we have seen before. He thinks that this is a darker Star Wars and he likes that about it. He thinks the killing of Han was necessary for Kylo's complete turn to the dark side. He also thinks this is why Kylo cannot be redeemed (I tend to agree with this sentiment).

Jane's reaction to this: She cried. But she thought it was something no one would have expected and that people were genuinely upset in the theater. They cried. They booed. It was amazing. She is not sure if it was necessary to the story, but she felt it made Kylo more tragic, not less.

Luke: Luke is who everyone is looking for and for different reasons, although these reasons are not really provided. The whole plot of the film is the search for Luke. He appears in a flashback (and not really, we don't see much of him in flashback apparently) and in the last few minutes of the film. Rey finds him, brings him his saber.

Dick's reaction to this: He believes this brings the story full circle. The child comes home to the father. The apprentice comes to the master. The saber comes back to its rightful owner. You know, poetry, and so forth. He was really moved by this scene.

Jane's reaction: She cried. She was just happy to see Luke finally. She believes too that this is the daughter coming home.

What they liked:

Both liked the characters, the visuals, the music. Jane liked the whole plot being about Luke and the journey to find him. Both liked Finn and Poe especially. Dick LOVED that Kylo killed Han (yeah, that is why I nicknamed him Dick). Both loved the ending. Dick loved seeing the dog fights and the Falcon. Jane said she liked the special effects and the Falcon. Both liked the fascist imagery and the colors used.

What they did not like:

Dick felt that the plot was thin and might leave super fan viewers frustrated. Jane did not like Maz AT ALL. She said that Maz looked like a blasted up raisin. Both said that Daisy's performance was off at times, sometimes believable, sometimes not. Both, while happy to see Ford, thought he looked too frail to be in fights.

Dick rates the film in this order: ESB, TFA, ANH Jane did not rate it that way. She said she thought it was 8/10

That is all I know. As I have said, if you have good questions that you want answered (and they are not the ones I want spoiled for me), I will be happy to ask them on your behalf and provide you with the answer.

 

I could not care less what Kylos real name is. My main concern is that there's a good plot and storyline that actually makes sense. That is not present here in these leaked reviews.

Don't know where you are getting 2,4, and 5 but no one is making those claims

 

That doesn't look real to me and I can't find any mention of a premiere in Philippines.

 

I was referring to the 'acting all dark, can't handle his feelings and snapping' part, probably should've made it clearer.

 

Stormstripper is off her head and was going on about Darth Nihilus for ages saying how she overheard a friend on the phone talking spoilers weeks ago.

 

This is great. Must read if you believe the spoilers. I think the Dick/Jane thing shows that YES these spoilers can be true and YES people can like the movie. You can't accurately depict execution of the plot on a freaking text forum. I totally believe it can be executed properly.
