This was a great episode, and it also reminded me how much I enjoy the production design of Mandalore and Mandalorians in TCW and Rebels.

Feels spartan but beautiful. Very good stuff. I particularly appreciate how the older mural art references Picasso and the portraits look a lot like Klimt.

    That was a fantastic episode!

There goes that previous speculation of Sabine being daughter of Rook Kast.

Guess by the time certain farm boy and a Corellian smuggler get into the Rebel Alliance the Mandalorians are still trying to control their system allegiance.

Agree. Also from certain Middle Ages literature I recall seeing that name too.

Oh my. If I got attached to a certain rag-tag team we saw in the course of one movie, I can foresee those heartbreaking moments you mention.

Hey, I thought about that too! I thought her brother would be the one who would shoot Gar Saxon though.

I honestly wish the show would become about Sabine and the Mandalorians, and we just have Kanan and Ezra be the ones that go away for a while.

@DarthOfInformation, You know what I find interesting? In all these Mandalorian murals there's always one holding a black sword. Is that supposed to be the Dark Saber? Maybe the figure in these murals is Tar Viszla.

Can we safely put away the 'only Force users can effectively wield lightsabers' idea now?

As of right now, Sabine has a better character arc than ezra. I wish Rebels was all about her. Ezra is nothing more than a background character after this episode in my mind. He makes witty comments, supports the main character. Give me two seasons of "Star Wars: Mandalore" instead of this boring "Rebels" nonsense.

A Mandalore spinoff could have legs. But for this show, I really want to see more of what is actually going on with the rebellion. I'm disappointed that we haven't seen more Rogue One characters in Season 3. It feels like a missed opportunity. The could do a much better job touching on Saw Gerrera's alliance and then subsequent split with the rebels, on Cassian Andor and the shady Rebels Intelligence operatives, and on Mon Mothma and the Rebels governing body. Also... MORE THRAWN!!! I guess that could all be forthcoming but my interest is waning. Mandos are cool and all and this was a good episode but I'm growing a little tired of the predictable rotation of backstories for each character of the Ghost that they've been doing every season.

Yeah, I have a lot of petty gripes about this series, but one of my bigger ones has definitely been the lack of connectivity with the greater Rebel Alliance. I get the idea of restricting the scope to a single Rebel cell and then expanding that perspective outward over time, but I was really expecting the story to be in a different place by now. My expectations are my own problem though :)

That is very well said. Good perspective. I just love that we have this cool community of Star Wars fans whom we can share our thoughts, ideas, perspectives and petty gripes with. My wife will only listen to so much!

Well, keep in mind that Episode 7 and Rogue one were both pushed back 6 months. That might explain some of the filler of this series. They might have already joined the much larger rebellion, but needed to hold off until the release of Rogue one.

Great episode, obviously... relishing this storyline. Excellent stuff!

And I agree with much of the above chatter– and now *may* be a good time to actually begin separating group story lines within 'Rebels', as TCW did...

I don't really know what to expect from the remaining seasons; but I certainly know what I'd LIKE --
I'd appreciate some more Jedi/Bendu angles, certainly some more Mandalorian action, ...some Hera/MonMothma/Rebel political wriggling, a touch again on the Hondo Ohnaka and Ezra connection... and maybe (just maybe) some sweet sweet "unexpected" Ahsoka Tano magic. (Similar perhaps to the Yoda Dagobah/Moraband story arc at the end of TCW...expanding the tale from those White/Red/Black Filoni images we saw not so long ago...)

I'd really appreciate at least two more seasons from this show. ...And a total of SIX would be fantastic!

I think they stayed away from Ezra/Kanan this season. last season was a major season for both of them. I take it as that they dont want it to be solely jedi driven in SW:R. just think of it as basic rebels standpoint. They all have to play their own part and come together in some sorts. in TCW around this time(season 3-4) they give single story arcs to characters. The lore of SW is basically the force and lightsabers. every movie has had a lightsaber in it and the force is the storyline.

It would be nice to see a standalone Sabine series but why not give Ahsoka one who is a fan favorite during TCW. SW fans will be SW fan regardless of what is out. i myself would be iffy like i was about R1 if they venture off the story of SW. I understand there is other stories/lives other than the force but now they have a Solo film and like i said i wasnt too fond of R1 so this film is up in the air. I guess im just stuck in the main storyline of the films. the force,lightsabers,jedi/sith...

I've read all of the new canon so far and I can't recall a single mention of the Mandalorians as a member of the NR. It would be kind of strange at this point to bring them in.
    --- Double Post Merged, Feb 24, 2017, Original Post Date: Feb 24, 2017 ---

I am getting the sense that they feel a need to step back from Ezra and Kanaan a bit since they can't lead them to a point where they are the hope of the Rebellion and truly critical to its success. We know that the Ghost, Hera, and Chopper make it as far as R1, but I think at the very least we are going to get the death of Kanaan and a disillusioned Ezra heading off like Ahsoka during the end of TCW. The story group recognized that they had to write her out before the events of ROTS to avoid a major continuity gap, and they won't be that sloppy here either. You just can't have continued growth of the two force wielders and then have them completely absent from the OT. We are only at season 3 and the Empire and the Rebellion are both well aware of the existence of Jedi fighting with the rebellion. It's simply too big of a gap to leave unresolved.

To everyone that says that Kanan and Ezra have to die or go dark kind of miss the point how big the Star Wars universe is supposed to be. The story writers make it small for convenience sake many times but it really isn't. Yoda didn't know of Kanan's existence until he started training Ezra. The Emperor didn't find Maul again until Maul took an apprentice and started his army as shown in the Clone Wars. Vader and the Emperor couldn't find Yoda or Obi-Wan. Neither Leia or Snoke could find Luke. As long as you don't go around making disturbances in the force you can just fall off the map.

The question at hand, in my observation, isn’t a matter of ‘how’ (Jedi can effectively conceal themselves as you stated), but ‘why’. If Kanan or Ezra do survive to the OT era then why are they no longer involved in the Rebellion moving forward? It’s not an impossible question to answer, but a pretty tricky one given the character development they’ve established to this point.

Isn't there very little post ROTJ canon? Just the aftermath trilogy and bloodlines right? I started listening to some of the new canon books on audible. They wouldn't have had a place in bloodlines. I can't speak for aftermaths; I haven't gotten to them yet. Not being mentioned in 4 books hardly bars them from future appearances.

They might not have wanted to spoil the state of mandalore.

Besides these novels (and Before The Awakening), there are the Shattered Empire mini-series (takes place just after ROTJ) and the ongoing Poe Dameron series (takes place just before TFA) in the comics. Neither have spoken about Mandalore. It is therefore possible that Mandalore joined the New Republic after the fall of the Empire. The period between ANH and ESB has been explored much more and it is safe to say that Mandalore did not join the rebellion at that time.

I do agree. To sell SW:R they had to sell the force by using Kanan/Ezra. Just like any other film its what holds the franchise. With it being Disney its hard to see them kill off Kanan and have Ezra wander the universe. I would like to see a anthology film on the crew alone. something prior to R1 but its just my wishful thinking. I can see them go the route of anime film like how TCW started off. Making Kanan story in a novel would be good but to be invested into the cartoon is too much. Even with Ahsoka(who i think is alive) getting a novel doesnt end her story to me but it its open ended just like TCW. everybody story in Rebels is left open so far. No character has a complete end in the timeline of SW. Obi-Wan is a good addition but he starts and ends in this season. I would like to see Kanan meet Obi-Wan and have Kanan further his knowledge of the force. everything is too big to leave unresolved but Disney can just end the series with "Hope' of the characters. Canon is canon and if kanan/Ezra are alive they just cant dust them off prior to the OT.

SW:R is a good show. im a fan of SW so watching TCW and Rebels and reading ROTS/Ahsoka(i dont really take the novels into affect) just makes you wonder how their story unfolds. the ending of R1 reminded me of ROTS though. just hard to see Vader rip shred then to nothing in ANH. went from 0 to 60 to back to 0. hmmm...

That actually doesn't bother me. The story line of the OT doesn't really call for Vader to get his hands dirty.

He was simply sparring with Obi Wan, bot verbally and literally, when Obi Wan dropped his defenses and sacrificed himself.

Other than choking people who failed him, he blocked a blaster bolt from Han Solo with his hand, and was otherwise trying to push/draw young Luke to the dark side, not kill him.
