Review: The Mandalorian Season 2 #6 Recreates Heavy-Hitting Action In Comic Form

Things are beginning to wrap up for The Mandalorian Season 2 comic adaptation. With the comic series now crossing the halfway mark, it turns its attention to what some may consider to be 'the weaker half' of The Mandalorian season 2. While the last three episodes of The Mandalorian season 2 did contain a few surprises (including that last one) some could argue that the show peaked when Ahsoka Tano appeared.



Enter The Mandalorian Season 2 comic adaptation. It's no secret that we here at Star Wars News Net have been critical of The Mandalorian comic adaptation. For the most part, it's a lesser, more uneventful way to experience the same story. However, we also give credit where credit is due. And The Mandalorian Season 2 issue #6 does adapt another action-heavy episode with great results.







The Mandalorian Season 2 issue #6 adapts the episode titled 'The Tragedy.' It's the one where Boba Fett and Fennec Shand join forces with Din Djarin to protect Grogu on Tython. There are plenty of huge moments and scenes of hard-hitting action, and it's here that the comic adaptation works best.



Episodes where there isn't much dialogue and exposition to adapt make for the best issues. It allows the artists a chance to shine and create moments where they can create awesome hero shots. And it's no different here. While the original episode had some great cinematography, seeing those moments recreated in comic form is truly awesome. Not every panel looks great, with some scenes lacking visual clarity, but the art nails it at moments where it needs to.







Props have to be given to penciller Steven Cummings. We've previously commended Cummings for his work on issue #2 and issue #4, and it's no different here with issue #6. Just take a look at the art below. I know it's recreating a shot from the original series, but seeing it in a comic, hand-drawn form is really cool.







When there's little exposition and dialogue to adapt, that's where The Mandalorian comic adaptation is at its best. It allows the art to shine -- the biggest difference between mediums. And penciller Steven Cummings' drawings are fun to behold, giving the characters awesome moments and shots.
