Scenes that could have been left out

I think you have to put the TIE fighter scene in the movie, otherwise Finn is going to check the wreckage and realize Poe isn't there. From that point you have two issues because first, Finn is probably going to go looking for Poe which might end up costing him his life. Second, BB-8 would never agree to leave the planet with them because he's under specific orders to wait on Jakku for Poe, which obviously can't be fulfilled after Finn tells BB-8 that Poe is dead.

The Rathtars scene was painful for me. I don't mind the gangs coming to get Solo, heck I don't even mind Solo having monsters on board and those monsters getting loose. But did you see those things? Absolute worst Star Wars species of all time. Why would someone even be hunting those?

Phasma scene was unfortunate but I feel like they had already cut a scene or two of hers and needed a way to get her more screen time. I can see Phasma lowering the shields out of confidence in her army to defeat the resistance but the trash compactor line was just cheese central.

 

I wouldn't have minded the Rathtars as much if I never had to see them. Rey's reaction to seeing one would have been way more intense if all we saw were some puppet tentacles. Would've been cooler if they were more Batman-like monsters, grabbing people from the shadows. Irish deathgang guy was weak sauce. I also like the idea someone had about just making it a fight scene.

Let's just call it what it is: The Rathtars are Prequelly

I would save about 3 seconds and not have Finn find the training remote, and not have Han yell "Twelve!".

Those 3 seconds would be spent on a Chewie/Leia moment after they return from SKB.

I think I might have had Artoo be with Luke at the end, instead of collecting dust at the base. That way we skip the lame map situation. Just let BB8 have the whole map or they have their Map guys study it and by the end of the movie they figure out where Luke is. Why is Artoo not with Luke???

 

No No Rathers, best star wars monsters! Best filmed monster sequence from a cinematographical perspective.

Perhaps King Prama wanted them for gladitorial combat of some sorts....

It would have been pretty funny if the one they captured would have been Daniel Craig without his weapon That would have been the worst day in the office ever. Being mind tricked and exposed as a weak mind, being disarmed, abandoning your post for the sleeping quarters (in the book) and then being captured and forced to lower the shields. And finally a one way trip in the trash compactor

 

blast, you're right - I must have been in denial about that. Maybe they are saving that reunion scene for episode VIII. That moment will be epic!

The worst moment for me is when Han suggests they disable the shield around Starkiller base. It's just the way he said it I think. They could have left that out entirely. And pretty much every scene with Phasma, I expected her to be a total henchman and she ended up seriously disappointing. She better do some serious storm trooping in Episode VIII!!!

 

Talking about scenes i was think of one.I was thinking about when BB-8 notice the landing of the FO at Jakku and went to tell Poe about it.I was thinking HOW did the FO and Kylo Ren KNOWS that they was there in that village???It looks that if Poe was followed by someone.I was thinking myself...HOW did Kylo know that the map was in that village?I think a scene explaining this was cut.....

 

Kylo Ren and LST know each other. it could be that Ren has been watching LST for some time and was tipped off that an X-wing pilot had arrived. we don't know yet where LST got the map, so there are other possibilities.

it's interesting...it didn't even occur to me to wonder about this. i guess i have a high tolerance for ambiguity ~ ha.

 

It can be.This part of the movie was to me NOT very clear.I hope in EP.8 will know better....

 

The entire movie until Rey & Finn meet could have been cut out and the movie would have been fine (but shorter) .

 

Scenes that could have been left out, huh? Well, let's just say that the next time I watch the movie, it will be shorter. On account of all the parts I'm going to skip over...

 

R2 is on Luke' island in the end. BB-8 stayed on the base with Leia, but R2 went to Ach-to along with Rey and Chevie. In ep VIII they will most likely meet again.

 

I wouldn't have cut anything. The film should have been 10 minutes longer so we got to see Kylo have his 'moment' on the Falcon and I'd have loved to had seen the Bespin duel, a young Kylo being handed over to Luke and the battle between the 'Clan' and Knights of Ren that were cut from the flashback.

I'm really intrigued to know why the journey of the lightsaber plotline was cut, if it was just to get the film down to a certain time so it feels fast paced I'd be quite disappointed as my main critisism of the films is that it's over in what feels like a flash. It does feel a little bit like a radio edit of a song, but it does show how good the film is if at over 2 hours it feels short!

 

Poe could've been completely removed from the movie for the better. Not only did he have no story, but actually worked against it. If you take him out, then Rey is the natural ace pilot like Luke/Anakin, no big deal. But now we've got two natural ace pilots in the same story. It doesn't work for me. That's one too many, and especially since the one too many has no story and is a minor character anyway. You could then remove the final trench run altogether. I'm not invested in Poe, this is clearly not his story, the trench run for me was just a special effects display that kept intruding upon the story I was invested in. It's like if in ANH Luke is on the Death Star and we keep switching to the trench run scenes lead by Biggs Darklighter.

But what really should've been the story was that there is no Poe character, and Rey isn't the ace pilot, Finn is. Finn isn't the sidekick comedy relief, he's a cool-headed ex-stormtrooper who defected with vital information on how to take out the Starkiller. He comes to the Resistance and it's a matter of trust. And unlike the Jedi council who do not trust Anakin, the Resistence leaders decide to trust Finn. Finn leads the attack on the Starkiller base as Han and Chewie rescue Rey. Now the audience is invested in the trench run. Now Finn is cool. Now we don't have two ace pilots in the same movie.

You can't really cut it, but Phasma just obeying the orders of her enemies? She's worse than Finn! What a hypocrite. Finn just defected. Phasma co-operated in actions leading to the destruction of the Starkiller base, and countless First Order soldiers. Finn defects, then gives info about the Starkiller weakness to the Resistance, then Phasma "lowers the shields" upon request. If I were Hux I'd be thinking maybe Phasma is working with Finn? At any rate I'd bust her ass back down to Private.

 

I agree with Phasma getting busted, when I first saw pics of her I expected a fearless leader of the troopers striking fear to all in her presence instead she plays as a yes trooper to everyone I guess that's why she's in episode 8 it's about making Phasma important again, as for Poe his scenes were great.

 

I agree that the gang sequence was terrible. It didn't feel like Star Wars. Han having trouble, yes. But the dialogue and the acting and the monsters all take me out of the fantasy for those 06:38.

TIE FIghter being swallowed...well the idea is sound but the execution was a little strange IMO. There was no build-up to it, and Finn didn't seem very perturbed either.

Phasma? Meh

BUT if I could cut anything I'd cut Snoke.

 

you get a TIE fighter cookie for that.
