A few days after breaking news that the Oscar-winning directing duo known as the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) have directed an episode of the upcoming Star Wars: Skeleton Crew live-action series, One Take News is reporting that David Lowery also directed at least one episode of the show that was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.

For the uninitiated, Lowery directed the 2016 live-action Pete's Dragon as well as the 2017 critical darling A Ghost Story. He then helmed Robert Redford's last acting hurrah (barring his cameo in Avengers: Endgame), The Old Man and the Gun, as well as last year's soon-to-become cult classic The Green Knight. Next up, he has Peter Pan and Wendy, Disney's latest live-action film, which will hit Disney Plus on April 28.

There's an immediate connection drawn between Skeleton Crew and Peter Pan and Wendy, as Jude Law is not only in both projects, but he's also the selling point in terms of recognizable talent inside a cast mostly populated by children. We don't know much about Skeleton Crew yet, but it's been announced that it will be following a group of four children and a supervising adult (Law) as they try to find a way back home through wild space. Here is the official synopsis:

Jon Watts (director of the latest Spider-Man trilogy) pitched the idea of the series to Jon Favreau on the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Favreau immediately got on the phone with Dave Filoni to tell him about it. The project was fast-tracked and went into production last summer, with Watts at the helm and directing multiple episodes. Christopher Ford, who co-wrote Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming, is the main writer of the series. Watts, Ford, Filoni, and Favreau are executive producers. The timeline of the series matches that of The Mandalorian, and Jon Favreau has already implied that season 4 of the latter will include characters from Skeleton Crew.

Skeleton Crew has yet to confirm a release date, but Disney asserted late last year that it would be coming out in 2023. Production wrapped in January in Los Angeles, so we could be getting some news during Star Wars Celebration and possibly even some footage for attendees.

Hmm, this project is almost as intriguing to me as The Acolyte.

I love the Mandoverse and the animated universe, but it's fun to get stuff that seems to be expanding a bit beyond that now. To be honest, up until today I didn't know this show was live action (and in fact, I'm still not 100% sure it is).

Absolutely live-action. One quote that sticks out and makes this so very interesting, I think it was Jon Watts, he said "although it is about kids, it is not a kid's show" or something along those lines. I don't take that to mean it will be anything like Andor, just with all the talk of it being "Amblin-like" or "Goonies in space", he wanted to say it will be enjoyable to adults as well. Can't wait!
