    I agree that the actual visuals make you wonder because these were so 'anchored' in 2D and didn't seem to fill all the gaps, but obviously it must work *somehow*, especially since according to screenplay / novelization in ESB there were only five Star Destroyers accompanying Executor.

    CONTROLLER Sir, Rebel ships are coming into our sector. CAPTAIN Good. Our first catch of the day.

    Apparently each Star Destroyer was assigned to a certain sector, I believe that tractor beams also played a vital role in putting up a blockade.
