Maybe it's me, but I like numbers and had a little spare time so I looked up all the comic sales numbers for the SW comics on the site www. comichron.com. Below a pivot table (besides numbers I like Excel:oops:) with the sales numbers of the 5 ongoing SW series Star Wars (SW) Darth Vader 2015 (DV 2015), Poe Dameron (PD), Doctor Aphra (DA) and Darth Vader 2017 (DV 2017).

    upload_2018-2-16_9-33-56.png

    Notes:

    - The sales in first year were insane! The sales of the first SW and DV 2015 issues went through the roof. Even some months later the first issues of SW and DV 2015 would pop up in the 200 most sold comics list.

    - Also visible is that the numbers now are much lower, for example if you compare DV 2017 with DV 2015, DV 2015 sold double the numbers DV 2017 sells now. I guess due to the quality and popularity of DV the sales for DV 2017 are pretty consistent.

    - That can't be said for the main SW series, which decline still keeps going and now almost get below the sales of DV 2017. So if this trend keeps going we will see that DV 2017 will become the bestselling ongoing series instead of the main series!

    - PD outsells DA with just a couple of thousand issues which I don't find a lot, if you know that PD is a character in one of the bestselling movies ever, and DA is a character only known by SW canon readers.

    Disclaimer:
    - The numbers on the comichron site are the sales numbers to the bookshops, so the these aren't the actual sales numbers to the costumers, but it gives a good insight I think.

Well said, especially when it's true. I believe that is why these are ongoing comic series, and not only - continuity of stories tied to variety of plots. I find these series equal to some books and animated shows, but even better than some movies...

    Thanks for numbers, very informative...

I understand this very well, I followed all new canon comic series, but 1 series after the other became boring and bad written. Now I have none on subscription anymore. :(

Have you tried the new Darth Vader series? It's one of the best (maybe the best) SW series of the new canon.

With the main SW series I have my problems. I didn't really enjoy the last arc, but for know I keep my subscription hoping for better day's

I had subscriptions to all new series from the beginning like main SW, DV, Poe, Kanaan, Anakin&Obi Wan, Shattered Empire. The beginning of these series was always very good, but sadly it became generic and even boring for most. First I cancelled Poe, then I did not try new series like Aphra and after watching TLJ I even cancelled the main SW series. At the moment I'm just not into this new canon anymore. But I'm happy for you if you found at least 1 series that is more compelling. :)

I find it so interesting that there is this rather very comprehensive and yet continuous parallel universe of comics running before/along with/beyond the films.

There is so much content, it's really incredible, and I've gotten into quite a few of the newer series, even the singular issues (e.g. C-3PO's red arm story), but I do have the sense, being a busy person, of there being more than I will ever have the chance to read.

Services such as "Marvel Unlimited" preserve the hope of being able to dip back into that at a later time, as time permits.

I'm glad there's so much content: more choices and possibilities!

I figured the "numbers" would go down from the initial reintroduction of the Star Wars comics. Comics can be an expensive hobby, and there are many other non-Star Wars comics and series out there. A LOT!

But, I also think the relatively successful co-existence of the many multiple Star Wars comic storylines, demonstrates there is no immediate concern for Star Wars oversaturation, at least on the comic side of things.

Good storylines usually do well when properly produced, and Star Wars has a nearly inexhaustible galaxy of stories waiting to be told. As long as they keep up the quality to balance the quantity, that should be well.

And, even with all the comics we now have, it seems, to me, they're simply at the "tip of the iceberg" at this point, and there's much more to come, incomprehensible as that might seem.

    Or, as Leia would say...

    "It's not over yet."
