Hey everybody! Last night I was thinking that it might be cool to create a friendly thread where instead of debating movie issues or arguing about what we love or hate about the SW movies, we could have a post where we could bring to light many SW facts that maybe we think lots of fans don't know. This could be real cool and we might learn much more about the galaxy far far away that we all love so much.

Have you seen an alien that almost nobody thinks was in SW? Do you have info on plot events that were ditched but could have been awesome if they had been done? Is there an extremely famous person in SW that the general audience doesn't seem to know about? Do you know about a certain toy that was made but hardly anyone knows exists? Then this is the post for you!

Let's all have fun and talk about all these things SW while keeping to ourselves if I love this movie or hate that one. Let's all enjoy all things SW and bring to light some cool things for everyone here to enjoy.

I'll start things of by talking about two SW aliens that had a bit of a controversy.

Did you know that the alien we know as Snaggletooth from the vintage figures wasn't from ANH?
    GE80234lg.jpg

When ANH came out, Kenner didn't have full designs on many of the characters and sometimes all they had were pic of headshots which forced them to come up with their own interpretation of the characters body. That's why Ponda Baba ended up with flippers for feet, Hammerhead had his blue jumpsuit ect.

The character that we saw in ANH was Takeel and not the one that was later wrongfully named Zutton.

There we can see Takeel which looks nothing like our classic Snaggletooth figure.

A new Snaggletooth figure was made years later and renamed Zutton but this to was a mistake.
    zutton-potjfiguresmallred.jpg

The character there is not Zutton but actually Zutmore from the dreaded SW Holiday Special.

    5ea7b700d429cd0aa2502fd19a8294d7 Snaggletooth.jpg
This would make him the first and only character from that creepy scary special that ever made it into a figure!

    great research.... also....

Originally, black and white photos were sent to Kenner and the "Rare" blue Snaggletooth was born. You could also bring up Greedo without his classic vest.

I like the idea, but I feel like there are a lot of diehard superfans here. No matter how much I try to learn, no matter how obscure a fact I might try to post, I worry that someone might come along and say "Um yeah, my dog knew that."

But I really don't think you should feel that way. No matter how much everyone here knows, they don't know EVERYTHING about SW and you might be surprised what you do know that others don't. Also keep in mind that there's always going to be the ''EGO'' factor that some people feel. They might not know about what you said but they won't admit it and say that everyone knows that but that still shouldn't stop you as decent conversations can be made about the simplest things in SW so post away!

On that note, did you know that the two headed character Cane Adiss which many fans think was left out of ROTJ was indeed in the movie?
    Cane-adiss-2.jpg
Many fans didn't see him and they just remember him from the TV special From Star Wars to Jedi The Making of a Saga.
    Cane_Adiss_under_construction.jpg

From there many fans never saw Cane Adiss again and they are not to blame as he's one of those blink and you miss him aliens. Here you can see where he was in the movie:
    cane-adiss-film-capture.jpg
You can barely notice him and I have to say that it is a real bummer that such a cool creature was hardly seen and has never gotten a figure made of him but as for him being canon well yeah he is as he was indeed present in Jabba's palace.

I always liked that the creature designers on RotJ named several characters after the saying Klaatu Barada Nikto from the classic Sci-Fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still.

    Klaatu
    [IMG]
    Barada
    [IMG]
    Nikto

Of course Nikto went on to become a species name rather than character name, with Klaatu also being a member of that species. As a fan of classic science fiction movies and aliens, I always love to see callouts like that.

You know, it wasn't until only a couple of years ago that I learned that the classic phrase of Klaatu Barada Nikto was from The Day the Earth Stood Still. I have never seen that movie. Is it good?

The first time I heard that Klaatu Barada Nikto line was from good old Ash in The Army of Darkness!

Neat! I love old horror and sci fi movies so I guess I'm going to have to get my hands on it.

Did you know............. that it too SIX (6) years for the original 1977' classic Star Wars to be available for home video purchase?

The first release of any Star Wars film came in May 1982 on VHS, Betamax, LaserDisc, and CED VideoDisc. At the time, VCRs existed most people had to rent them as a package deal at their local Video Store. Very few people could afford a BETA or VHS player.....

Note: When I was young (1980-1984), I remember going into our local Video Store and picking out 4 or 5 movies for the weekend and then renting a VHS R from the counter attendant or owner. It wasn't until 1985-86 that out household purchased a VHS player at an affordable price.

These days, kids have no idea how lucky they are. Not being able to buy a movie long after its release was the reason why the ABC Monday Night at the Movies became a family event. CBS and NBC also had their Special Night at the Movie events.

Star Wars aired in 1984 on network television as an EVENT that included a special introduction from Mark Hamill. This was the first time many people had seen Star Wars since 1977 or its re-release.

    Times have changed!!!

It's classic stuff, I highly recommend it. It's right up there with films like Forbidden Planet and Godzilla as far as classic and influential science fiction movies of that era. Gort is pretty much the quintessential 1950s sci-fi robot.

Enough about that though. Let's get back to hearing interesting and obscure stuff about Star Wars.

Wow I did not know that! I do remember that I didn't have a VHS until I was like about in 6 or 7th grade but I never knew you had to rent them or that it took so many years for ANH to make it into VHS.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jan 6, 2017, Original Post Date: Jan 6, 2017 ---
Did you know that back in 1977, when ANH came out, Kenner who already had the rights to produce toys based on the movie, didn't have any idea that the movie was going to be such a huge hit. This cought them unprepared as they had no toys ready and christmas was just right around the corner. SW was mindblowing and kids loved it so Kenner, knowing it had no time to get it's toys ready for christmas, came up with this crazy idea of selling a certificate to the kids called the Early Bird Certificate Package. This would allow children to send the cupon to redeem it for a set of four figures that would arrive months later. The crazy idea was a success and many kids got the plain old certificate that came with an empty figure stand for christmas that year but the kids just loved it.

The figures included in this set were Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2 and Chewbacca.

    star-wars-early-bird-kit-1977-open.jpg
The figures came with pegs so that you could stick them in their feet and put them on the display stand. What a different mindset in those days. Kids were happy to just find an empty box under their tree that christmas but if you do that to a kid now all hell would break loose!

That's sad to hear. I traded all my vintage figures back in the day for G.I. Joes and only kept my Amanaman figure and my Boba Fett but I missed them so I have started to slowly collect them once more. I have gotten a few good deals on ebay for some cheap figures that are like new. You should give it a try and maybe you could at least get back your old favorites.

Did you know that Sarco Plank was actually in TFA and his scene wasn't cut out like the one of Constable Zuvio?
    constable-zuvio_2814b373.jpeg
While Zuvio and his fellow Kyuzo didn't make it into the film, our good old Sarco Plank
    Sarco_Plank_Cropped_Head.png
did indeed make it into the film yet he's only there for a few seconds. He really is a blink and you miss him alien. Just look for the scene where the Stormtroopers arrive on Jakku and Finn and Rey start running through the market place. There you will see them pass Sarco Plank.

That's one of the things i didnt like about TFA and maybe even R1, that we saw too much of these creatures to fall in love with and then were deprived.
