Hey is anyone playing Star Wars Galaxies EMU? This is my first time playing that game and I am lost. I have played MMOs before but this one has so many paths I don't know what to do. I keep playing missions that are way too difficult for a beginner and I was wondering if others here have experience with the game. It would be cool if there was a cantina guild, y'all seem like nice people.

Anyways I am a human marksman brand spanking new. How do I make some bling and how do I get the rebels and or Empire to let me join? Those guys are so picky.

I haven't played SWG in eons. I don't remember how the joining of the factions worked. As for missions and their waypoints I remember picking ones that where around 500-1000 meters from the terminal and picked two the same directions. Also killing creatures outside the cities gave exp. but it was a slow process.

They're should be some guides on google.

I have been playing SWGemu a little the last few weeks and i used to play a lot back in the day.. if you have any questions feel free to ask!
its an extremely complex mmorpg compared to every other mmorpg I've played.

Basically everything in the game has its own type of experience so if you want to level up pistols.. you need a pistol.

When you very first start out, killing creatures/npcs you find just outside of mos eisley/coronet/theed will be the best for you. Once you have a couple of combat skills venture further out with some missions.

Take the mission that give the least amount of credits.. generally the credit reward is an indication of how difficult the mission will be.. 1000~ should be good for someone who's just started.
Kill the enemies one by one until they are all gone.. then hit the base they spawn from.. as soon as more enemies spawn hit peace (if you do it quickly enough they won't aggro you) if they all run at you.. try and handle it.. or run away and lose aggro and come back.
There's only 3 spawns from these bases.. the initial one you find when you arrive.. then at 3/4 base HP and then at 1/2 base hp.. after that you can destroy the base and get your reward.

Dont rely on the coloured indications next to an enemy's health bar (i never found them to be very accurate).. instead look at how much health they have compared to how much damage you do.. if something has 700hp and you do about 100 damage per hit.. you know you can kill it reasonably quickly.. if they have 3000 hp and you are still doing only 100 damage.. you have a long fight on your hands.

Once you start earning some money head to a medical center, find a player Doctor and get temporary buffs from him. he will buff all of your health and action stats up (usually for a fee..but if you're very new i found they often don't charge)

Then head to a Cantina and find an entertainer whose doing mind buffs, group up with them and watch them for a minute or two.. now you will have a full set of buffs and will be MUCH stronger in combat (at least.. you will be able to take a much bigger beating before going down)

You will find once you are buffed you can handle MUCH more difficult missions. you will also be able to wear armour without it encumbering you in combat.

fully buffed and armored up you will be able to run up to a base.. begin hitting it with an AOE.. and take out all the enemies and the base all at once.. instant cash! I wouldn't recommend trying this until you feel comfortable with your skills though.

Leveling up your skills is really not what this game is about though.. my advice is to get yourself a fast swoop speeder and go explore tatooine... i spent an entire day visiting all the POIs on the map. like Luke's home (Lars homestead), Jabbas palace, krayt skeleton, R2D2 and C3POs crashed pod.. exploration really is the greatest part of SWG.

It's also an extremely social game... even all these years later its still once of the best social experiences you can have on a game. just go to mos eisley cantina and see for yourself!

Which version of the game play and character class model do the EMU servers act like? What @ChillySCR is describing reminds me more of the original release than what it was like near the end.

Oh its absolutely the early SWG! in fact its so early there's not even Jedi in the game yet.
It's pre-Jump to Lightspeed too.. i believe that's on its way eventually.

They basically have started the EMU from the original unpatched files and are gradually adding the good content back in (like Jedi.. i believe that's in the next major patch). in all honesty it plays exactly like i remember.. including the odd rubber-banding lag spikes (It's not that bad.. and I'm playing from England on a server based in Texas).

They obviously aren't going to add any of the horrible combat changes and stuff that caused people to quit the first time over.

There's also a pretty healthy amount of players playing.. around 1000 to 2000 at peak times.. never had any trouble getting buffed or anything.

All in all it's the SWG you remember and love :D

I am trying to get on the bloodfin server because it has space flight and jedi, but for some reason it does not detect my internet connection and gets stuck at the login screen, plus their forum is apparently broken since I am unable to register. I also hear their is less of a grind on that server because of the double xp. I've gotten really tired of shooting bandits over and over to level up fast and easy.
