To continue off of an earlier thread by @MarsPhoenix ... I wanted to start a thread to share stories of how we've exposed others to Star Wars.

I'm an American who works in Russia as an English teacher. I absolutely love my job. My name here Darth Zloi is based off the Russian word for "evil". My girlfriend (actually my fiancee, proposed to her I did this weekend and yes she said) is Russian and she had heard of Star Wars (of course), but had never seen it. She loves Marvel films and GoT, yet had avoided SW because she thought it would be kinda stupid. After much convincing and emphatic pleading ... she finally agreed to watch the OT with me. She was almost immediately hooked (we watched in Russian). Soon after we watched the PT ... Anakin doesn't sound nearly as whiny in Russian. Since then, she has fallen in love with Rebels and TCW. We even read the comics together, which I have to translate into Russian for her. BTW ... it's incrediby difficult to do this. I'm relatively fluent in conversational Russian. Yet, I'm sure you can imagine that many of the terms that come up in a SW story, simply are not used in everyday conversation. It's a great and worthwhile challenge though. She loves droids most of all. I surprised her one day with an R2-D2 (her favorite) and C-3PO figure set under the pillow. They now stand proudly on her shelf. She's new to the game, so when we watched recent Rebels episodes, I had to remind her who Lando and Tarkin are. One of my New Year's gifts from her was a Yoda lego key chain. Loves him she also does. Please share any other interesting stories.

PS ... my Upper-Intermediate students happily engaged in a discussion one day about what they would do if they were seduced by the power of the Dark Side. Most admitted they would fall ...

Great read! I'm trying to picture Vader yelling "Nyet!" at the end of RotS.(dark)

What's even more strange ... Yoda speaks out of proper word order in English. Russian word order is much more flexible. I asked my gf how they achieved this in Russian. She said it was there ... but my Russian isn't good enough to pick up on it.

I "Forced" my oldest son in the Star Wars universe back in the special edition days. His room was a kingdom of vintage Star Wars toys, posters, bedsheets,... got him autographs from the OT actors... When Phantom Menace came out, I brought him in an afternoon screening... he became addicted. Now, nearing his twenties, he will be in line with me for TFA's premiere. My daughters never jumped in the train, hopefully,, with a strong lead female character this time, they might come along. We'll see.

It's funny you said that because someone wrote a blog right after the ROTS DVD came out in 2005 to switch to German, and the Vader 'NOOOOOOO' doesn't sound nearly as bad. They were right! :D

Congrats Darth Zloi!. She sounds like a keeper.

Unfortunately my wife likes to call R2D2.....D2D2.

Which I then follow up with threats of divorce and forced watching of the entire box set including the prequels (even though I don't like the PT).

No biggie, my wife actually said "Duke Skywalker" the other day (referencing Luke). I just hung my head in defeat while she exploded in gleeful laughter.

    Can you imagine?
"That's impossible!.....Pilgrim." or "...and it's strong with my SISTER TOO....wuh-huh..."

In mother Russia, Force uses YOU!

(Note: I totally realize this is not an original thought, but it is one that is apt to sally forth once one has been imbibing Canadian Mist after almost two weeks of going cold turkey. Not an 'off the wagon' moment, but more a 'this is your reward' sort of affair. Ignore this entire post if you like. It's all good brah.)

I got the OT and showed it to my SW virgin friend. She wasn't impressed, but now she gets SW jokes. She's just lucky that I didn't show her the copy of the Holiday Special I had rented ;)

Well on a night out in 2005 after watching RTOS my GF blurted out ''Puke Skywalker'' after eating 2 boxes of chicken nuggets, I tried to stop but she was her own person.

You should drive her to Mark Hamill's house and make her apologize in person.

While you are there you can get some info on Ep. VII for us
