The first trailer outside of last year's Star Wars Celebration teaser for the third and final season of The Bad Batch has finally been released after days of people associated with the show teasing it. The trailer revealed the release date of February 21st along with the information that this will be a 3-episode premiere.

The trailer includes a lot of shots you might expect, though no less exciting, of Tantiss, Pabu, struggles, and near-escapes. Check out our full breakdown below:

We start off on a desolate planet that looks like it's home to some sort of Imperial mining installation. Hunter and Wrecker are being chased by stormtroopers and it seems to me that they've perhaps stolen a valuable shipment or piece of information. Maybe in exchange for some important information on Omega's whereabouts?

Wrecker exclaims that the pair are 'running out of road!' when Phee swoops into the rescue just in the nick of time. Given Phee's growing attachment to the members of the Bad Batch, I'm not at all surprised to see her show up in season 3.

I wonder if we'll see Phee join the clones in rescuing Omega, and what the emotional fallout is for her, if any, after Tech's death.  We see Wrecker jumping to safety onto Phee's ship and being helped up by Hunter and a third clone, probably Echo? It's difficult to confirm, but that's a likely possibility.

Next up, we get a shot of a ship arriving on Coruscant with Rex's voice over top saying 'I thought the end of the war would mean the end of losing more of our brothers, but I was wrong.' Once again emphasizing the dire situation the clones are facing as they are abandoned, held captive as test subjects, or exterminated. I'm always happy to see we're headed back to Coruscant. This might also signal the return of Senator Chuchi, who had taken it upon herself in season 2 to push for increased rights for the 'retired' clone army.

As if they need to hammer the point home any more than they already have, we're shown a shot of Tech's (presumably?) fatal fall from last season. As much as I would love to see him alive, I'm not reading too much into this. I think this is simply a reminder of his death for fans who may have forgotten.

And finally, our first shot of Omega. She's looking pretty bummed out, and you would be too if you were held captive by an evil Imperial doctor. Her hair is noticeably different here, which gives the impression that a significant amount of time has passed. In later shots of Omega in the trailer, she has the same hair that she has in season 2, which of course could all be meaningless, but I'm inclined to read character development and/or time passage into it whenever a character model gets updated in animation, no matter how small the change. The model updates usually mean more work for the animators moving forward so it makes sense that they need to be updated for solid story purposes.

Right after Omega's reveal we get Crosshair looking even more downtrodden than Omega and filing along in a line of other prisoners.  I expect Crosshair's reunification and reconciliation with the rest of the Bad Batch is going to be a major beat this season. After everything Crosshair has been through, how long it took him to see the error in his ways, and how persistently stubborn he is, I think it might be an awkward, but crucially important scene. In many ways, Crosshair is Omega's foil, and seeing the two of them work together to escape Mount Tantiss is going to be an entertaining dynamic.

Immediately after Crosshair, we see Dr. Hemlock who is literally operating in the shadows. I cannot wait to get more detail on Dr. Hemlock's research and how it potentially feeds into plotlines in The Mandalorian and the sequel trilogy. Here, we see him flanked by two clone commandos.

We hear Dr. Hemlock say 'secure her in a cell' right before we get a shot of Omega holding some sort of machinery and being scanned in a prison cell. She's wearing the same type of uniform as her clone sister and research assistant to Dr. Hemlock, Emerie Karr. So perhaps she is being forced to assist or participate in the research and development of Dr. Hemlock's projects. And of course, it's highly possible that Dr. Hemlock has now been clued into Omega's unique genetic profile (if he wasn't already) and is capitalizing on this opportunity.

The clone herself, Emerie Karr. I expect we'll get resolution this season on where exactly Karr's loyalties lie. It's hard to imagine that the only other female clone we know of won't have any narrative beyond background research assistant.

In a very interesting shot, we see Emperor Palpatine flanked by two Praetorian Guards and followed by Dr. Hemlock, Nala Se, and more clone commandos. We hear Palpatine say 'There is nothing of greater importance to secure the future of this Empire. Whatever is needed to accomplish this goal, you will have it.' Clearly, he's referring to the project that Dr. Hemlock and Nala Se are working on and I expect this increased funding and resources will lead to greater challenges in Omega's rescue.

Speaking of resources, the next shot appears to be another highly trained clone assassin, similar to the one we saw in season 2 episode 7, termed 'Clone X.'

We see the Havoc Marauder flying over a planet that reminds me a lot of Kashyyk, but that's just speculation. Is it possible that the Bad Batch enlist Gungi in their plan to save Omega? I doubt it, but a girl can dream.

We later hear an unidentified clone (perhaps the new Clone X) say 'They are coming...for all of you' before we are shown a quick shot of two of the galaxy's more infamous bounty hunters, starting with Fennec Shand. We knew Shand would be appearing in this season after reports were confirmed during last year's Star Wars Celebration, but it's still great to see Ming-Na Wen back in the animation saddle. She loves this character and does an excellent job translating Shand from live-action to animation.

While the voiceover makes it seem as though the bounty hunters (in addition to the Empire) are after the Bad Batch, Fennec Shand is a bit of a wild card. We can't know for sure she would accept that job. Cad Bane on the other hand...I think we can safely assume he'd accept any bounty as long as the credits are flowing. He's also been known to hold a grudge and after the Bad Batch rescued Omega right out from under him in season 1, he may be all too willing to accept their bounty, if that is indeed how the story plays out. Regardless, Bane looks really cool in the updated animation style and I'm thrilled to see him return.

Next up, we see a quick succession of shots of Nala Se, Hunter, Rex, Echo, and the below-unidentified clone trooper. Is this Howzer with a new haircut, Gregor, or perhaps someone totally new? The fact that they're included in the quick shots of many of our main characters makes me think they won't have a bit role in the story.

Finally, our last shot of Omega shows what appears to be her escaping, which would also align with the updated character model. We all know Omega isn't going to simply sit tight and wait for Hunter and the gang to come rescue her, so an escape attempt (whether successful or not) seems likely.

Next, we briefly see a fight from a scene that was shown at Star Wars Celebration of Wrecker battling another megafauna. This time, some sort of crocodile-like creature who appears to have Hunter in its' jaws.

This next shot nearly slipped past me, but you can see in the bottom left corner what looks to be Crosshair's rifle being held by someone wearing similar black armor. While not confirmed, this sure seems like Crosshair reunited with the Bad Batch.

And lastly, the piece de resistance, the return of Asajj Ventress. Questions abound.

Regarding how this reconciles with canon novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple, supervising director and executive producer Brad Rau had the following to add in an article on StarWars.com:

Ventress has a pretty concrete death in the novel by Star Wars standards, but according to the timeline, the events of The Bad Batch season 3 take place after the events of Dark Disciple, so we'll see how this plays out.
