Star Wars Visions: The Village Bride Submitted for the Academy Awards

At least 84 animated short films have been submitted to qualify for the 94th Academy Awards, and Star Wars Visions fans have been pleasantly surprised to learn that the fan-favorite segment 'The Village Bride' is among the list of nominees.





CartoonBrew have kept tabs on a list of animated short films that are in the running for the nomination process, and fans of Star Wars animation were pleasantly surprised that the Visions short 'The Village Bride' was been submitted for the nomination process. Naturally, there is no guarantee that the short will be one of five films that will be listed as finalists for the award, but this represents the first time that an animated Star Wars project has been up for this kind of an accolade.



'The Village Bride' (directed by Hitoshi Haga, written by Takahito Oonishi and Haga, and animated by Kinema Citrus) follows a young woman known only as F, a Jedi in hiding following the traumatic events of Order 66. When an explorer named Valco leads her to a remote world with a spiritual people in touch with the nature of their planet, she discovers that a soon-to-be-wedded couple are set to offer themselves up as collateral to a group of bandits who are holding their village hostage. F must make a decision: either stay in hiding and let the villagers suffer, or reveal her identity as a Jedi and save them.



Star Wars Visions is currently streaming on Disney Plus. Currently, there has been no word on follow-up projects to the anime series, but Disney confirmed that they will increased their investment in anime on the streaming service shortly after this series was released. Kenji Kamiyama, the writer and director of another Star Wars Visions segment 'The Ninth Jedi', has also expressed interest in creating a follow-up. There has also been some interest from Lucasfilm in carrying certain characters from this series forward in other media, and the producers are open to doing more seasons.
