    Be kind to your fellow Star Wars fans.

    I just want to remind our community here that we're all going to react differently to The Force Awakens.

    Some of you will be angry, others sad, others will be delighted, others pleasantly surprised and some of you will be militant, almost defiant in your defense of the film.

    Be kind, be gentle, be understanding and for the love of all that is decent, please be tolerant of dissenting opinion.

    This isn't a contest. One of the hateful things about the upvote/downvote metrics is it suggests there's tangible quality to what is so often just opinion and subjective taste. That your input can be quantified and qualified.

    It's a lie.

    The tangible quality of a forum is not how spectacularly you defend your opinion, but rather, by how well you facilitate a discussion. You can't "win" a thread. You do not convert others to your view. You add almost nothing by suggesting that some reactions mean "you don't belong here" or "you are clearly not a real fan".

    There's no such thing as one fan being "better" than others, you can't measure such things. It is certainly not determined how much you fluff the brand or dislike the prequels. You might know how to speak Mando'ade but that makes you no superior a fan than the kid who saw Star Wars for his first time just last week.

    Star Wars belongs to all of us. Not to the moderators of this forum, not to the fans who insist the "prequels are awesome" not to the raging reddit user who already hates the film because Luke isn't the star of it.

    We're all about to see a film that many of us have waited for a long time. Please, be kind, courteous and tolerant to those who react to the film differently than you do.

    And here I was, planning to wait till after I saw the movie to stop lurking, and this is the post that brings me "out of the shadow" :) so thanks for that, I think it's something the SW fandom need to be reminded of, from time to time - or, at least, I know I needed it.

    Yours is wise advice.

    I'd only say that the only thing I legitimately can't tolerate is the bashing of GL, the PT, or the OT.

    It's okay to criticize, but I see too much bashing that goes far beyond mere criticism and that ruins my experience on Star Wars related boards.
