Lucasfilm and Disney Plus have officially announced that the upcoming live-action Star Wars series The Acolyte is now filming in the UK as well as the main ensemble. A behind-the-scenes picture featuring showrunner and director Leslye Headland alongside series leads Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) and Emmy Award-winner Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) has also been revealed (see above).

Joining Stenberg and Jung-jae are Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).

While many of these names were already known, there are a few surprise in there, such as the inclusion of The Matrix and Marvel TV veteran Carrie-Anne Moss. Check out the official cast roundup in image form below:

From Disney's press release, here's the official synopsis of the series:

From creator, showrunner, and executive producer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), The Acolyte has recently begun production in the UK, something that we had learned before from set photos taken in the last few weeks. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing. Headland will also direct the series pilot, and it remains to be seen who will pick up the 'directing baton' after that.

Sets have been constructed in Shinfield Studios, 40 miles west of London, for the past couple of months, and the first reports of Stenberg being on set there came out last week. The series will be combining the use of real sets with the Volume technology, merging the approaches taken by Andor and The Mandalorian / Obi-Wan Kenobi, respectively. Later this month, a second Star Wars series will also begin to roll cameras in the UK when Andor season 2 starts filming on the 21st.

No release date has been announced, but since it is reportedly filming through May 2023, it will likely arrive in the first half of 2024 on Disney Plus.
