    ...are not gone!

They were NOT destroyed! Rey took them and they are safe on the Falcon. Not sure if Yoda was keeping that from Luke when he said "Rey has everything she needs".

Clearly, with the ending of a force sensitive child telling tales of the Legendary Luke Skywalker at the Battle of Crait, the Jedi are being reborn from their roots with Rey as the new custodian of the knowledge to pass on.

You can't see what she put in the drawer when she closes it as they're leaving Ach-To but at the end of the movie when Finn is looking for a blanket to put on Rose it's clear that she has the books.

THat's why Yoda danced a jig. He already knew where they were.

Yes, yes, yes. Wisdom they held, but that library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess.

Quite literally. There are so many moments and lines like this throughout the film which make so much more sense the second or third time around.

Well when Luke is projecting himself and engaging with Kylo, he says something on the lines of "Rebellion is reborn today, war is just beginning and I will not be the last Jedi". So now we all know who is the Last Jedi.

I spotted Anakin's disintegrated light sabre along with ancient jedi books on-board falcon.

But can any one tell me what's the purpose of destroying that force tree ? Luke was about to torch it but Yoda destroyed it with lightning.

Now that is some narrative depth. Guess those haters didn't spot that. Quite frankely, me neither, and I love this movie. Great find OP and great observation Julius Fett!

Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. A tree is a tree. Life dies and begins again.

Guess what that sabre will look like in the next movie: Rey will get her double bladed/ staff lightsabre.

Symbolic end to the old ways. Letting go of the past. Killing it, if he has to...

There are some very good porg recipes in one of them. It would be disastrous to lose all that valuable stuff. Because if you need to become stronger with the force, you simply eat more porgs. But they aren't very tasty so a good recipe is worth thousands of kyber crystals.
There's also a very funny comic book that the first Jedi got from his mother and which inspired him to create the Jedi order in 1st place. Yoda loves this one. He'd never really burn it.
Yeah an one isn't actually a regular book, but more like a mirror that can show certain things depending on who opens it and how what does that person feel. It shows Kylo's nude pics to Rey. That's why she took all these books with her.

Thanks for giving the info. Now I understood the meaning behind that scene. In TLJ there is a constant information overload. It takes some time to comprehend. It takes multiple viewings to completely understand.

"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter"- Yoda. Yup this quote when related to that scene from TLJ makes sense. In TLJ a lot of scenes rhyme with OT, this the one that I didn't understand.

Since you have mentioned double bladed/staff light sabre, we see Rey using her staff for the last time on Ach-to, then she starts using Anakin's light sabre. Have you spotted that staff on falcon ?

Probably in EP-9 she will go on to build her own light sabre using the kyber crystal from Anakin's light sabre.

The books might have been taken by Rey on the Falcon.

Check out the final scene on the Falcon when Finn reaches into a drawer for a blanket to place on Rose - the books are in there. She may have saved them. ;)

    Absolutely.
When Kylo says those words, "Let go of the past. Kill it, if you have to" he's speaking to us as much as anyone in the movie.
The series has to move forward. TFA was great for what it was and what it had to be. But now it's time to let go and move forward.

No I haven't seen the staff. I love that staff though.
As for the lightsabre, she will probably include elements from the old weapon in the new design. Anakin's sabre will just evolve into something different, using the same hilt.

And it really gives Rey chance to start all over from the very beginning. New Jedi, while still built with help of great masters - Yoda, Obi Wan and Luke - but also based of the knowledge of the first Jedi. Possibly unspoiled by the late Jedi Order's mistakes.

The books is kind of pointless since you can become a jediknight without reading them.

Yeah, given how easy things for her are, she doesn't seem to need them. But let's say they wanted to show us that she has something more to build on (her training wasn't really a training and it really seems strange - old Jedis had to undergo years of training, for Luke it took much less time, but here it seems like no training may be needed at all and that's hardly believable)

"Let the past die.Kill it if you have to. That's the only way to become what you were meant to be." -Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren says this in conversation with Rey. Wasn't this dialogue in context with Kylo's own internal conflict and Rey seeking to find out who her parents are.

I loved how this film didn’t tear up the previous 6 films of Jedi lore but added to it. The prophecy remained in place and fulfilled. The Jedi were not meant to end and despite their flaws are the right way to serve the force. And the the whole grey Jedi nonsense was put to rest.

Well, i guess that the books will explain everything when Rey is a powerful jedimaster in episode 9. But that explanation will be crap.

You can try writing code without reading the documentation too (I've seen so many lazy coders do it), but believe me those who take the time read what has come before produce better results. And just like the Jedi texts, the documentation is rarely a page turner.

That said, I like how Star Wars rarely focuses on artifacts and items. The novels do constantly, since the terrible days of "Splinters of the Mind's Eye", but the films don't fall for the easy trap of a singular Macguffin for the characters to chase. The more I heard fan theories about crystals and the big magnifying glass in Snoke's "big red romper room" before TLJ, the more I realized that obsession with objects and artifacts is a fruitless chase.

Star Wars is about characters, people and motivation. It shines most with character focus, rather than "break the ball in the handle of her cane" kind of plot devices.

And yes that was an obscure muppet reference in a Star Wars thread, deal with it. :)

I noticed the books in the falcon as well, but my brain didn't connect it to the Yoda quote until reading some reviews. (Funny enough, I didn't see the kid at the end use the force trick to grab the broom).

Anyway I'm assuming those ancient texts include a diagram for how to construct a lightsaber, assuming you have a kyber crystal. Also assuming her lightsaber will be blue since the closest kyber crystal is the one from the busted Skywalker lightsaber. Would be nice to see her do something different with it -- maybe the diagrams will be an ancient design, like Kylo's is?
