The cantina scene of A New Hope is beautiful for many reasons, most of which for me is the dark humour throughout.

Han kills a bounty hunter and Obi Wan chops someones' arm off while protecting Luke, yet the entire Cantina just keeps on going, barely anybody bats an eyelid. The cantina scene is Star Wars at it's quintessential best, totally alien while still being perfect to relate to.

A New Hope is definitely what i'd consider an art-house film by today's standards.
